Mr. Lively, go pedal your rightwing bushwa elsewhere. If a liberal president had sent the country to war based on either a pack of lies or because he lacked the competence to read intelligence reports -- which are your only two choices with this rightwing idiot you and your kind have saddled us with twice -- you'd be screaming for his head.

Fuckin' hypocrites!

7+ lrge mouth bass does garner bragging rights here in Texas...but what I find really amusing is this...the large amount of liberals here, swimming in so much animosity, and attacking the CIC over his fishing habits...and about sending our "young men and women" to die...those young men and women are soldiers...not children. I was in the service, and being there is a choice we make..I was not conscripted...if you join a unit that is oriented around WAR then you might get sent to WAR...see the logic in that? On top of that...this is a republic, not a democracy...and the people do not decide when we go to war...our leaders do...your liberal congressmen and women voted to send our soldiers there correct? All the President can do is ask them too. Point your fingers at the true culprits not the scapegoat.

David Brown - thanks for sharing your conservative family values with us. Although we don't need more examples of the hypocrisy of rightwing Bush-worshippers like yourself, it's nice of you to remind us that you are all emotionally and intellectually stunted -- just like your Dear Leader.

I suppose it is possible that he caught a Nile perch, if some are stocked somewhere in Texas, but most ponds in the midwest and south are stocked with largemouth bass. Stocking is necessary to create a population if the pond is artificially constructed, as many are in Texas since they are not common on flat land. As a largemouth bass fisherman I will attest that a 7.5 pounder is reasonably big and may be bragged about, though 10 pounders are caught in Texas lakes and they go over 20 lbs. in southern California due to expecially favorable conditions.

Y'all need to know your facts when you critique this fool, or you just look stupid. The largemouth bass is a treasured species in the south especially, so acting ignorant about it just makes you look dumb.

Perch or bass? Dumb? Yes, but immaterial. The assertion that Bush believes catching a fish is the best moment of his presidency shows the depth of his character. You'd think he'd want to extoll on something noble - like how he was able, through the power of his office, to help alleviate human suffering, feed the poor, or leave the world in better condition than when he took office. Oh, right. He doesn't do that sort of thing.

I too read that story about the perch and had the same reaction.

The Leader of the Free World's proudest moment! Save us all.

Pathetic of course, but is there some metaphorical truth hidden in this story?

I thought that 7.5 lbs for a Perch was exceptionally big so I went online and searched for fishing records. Ah Ha! I found that there had been no native perch caught anywhere near that size. They were from 1 to 3 pounds, EXCEPT once instance of a 12 lb. Nile perch caught in Texas in 1980. These Nile perch had been stocked in some Texas lakes from the late 1970s until 1984. Reading about the Nile perch we find that it is not at all the benign species that we think of when we think Perch.

"The Nile perch is a large freshwater fish. Also known as capitaine, mputa or sangara, it can grow up to 200 kg and two metres in length. It was introduced to Lake Victoria in 1954 where it has contributed to the extinction of more than 200 endemic fish species through predation and competition for food.

Large predator... feeding in Lake Victoria on juvenile Nile perch (cannibalism)." (Complied by: Dr. Jos Snoeks, Africa Museum, Leuvensesteenweg, Tervuren, Belgium & Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG). )

Bush was proudest when he caught a 7.5 lb. fish that can grow up to 400 lbs.

What a perfect metaphor! If indeed it was a Nile Perch which had been placed in the Bush photo-op fishin' hole, how perfect to find that it is responsible for the extinction of more that 200 species of smaller fish and they "eat their young".

I read further in the article and found the following which I quote:
"This species has been nominated as among 100 of the "World's Worst" invaders".

Friends, can you imagine a better way to describe not only Bush's favorite moment, but Bush himself..

But on the other hand, if it was not a rare Nile Perch, it would have been a native perch and he was just another lying fisherman. An even better metaphor.

THE COVERUP

After writing the above I saw another reference to the fish story in an American paper. Obviously a vast right-wing conspiracy is at work here. They reported the "best moment", but the fish had been changed to a "Large Mouthed Bass". Could it be that the White House had the translation changed to a fish that better fits the image?
On reflection I see THIS is the really best metaphor of all.

Being a Texan myself, and an avid fisherman, Bunnypants (Dubya) is full of it. If he doesn't know a perch from a bass, he is hurting, badly. My six year old, who I take fishing often, knows the difference. One word to describe the World's most powerful man, IDIOT.
