Like what? The Sunni minority has suppressed the Shia for the entirety of modern Iraq’s history. Payback’s a bitch, now that the Shiites are in control.

But the root cause of it sectarian, and the basic disagreement between the sects tracks back to a squabble about inheritance after the Prophet died.

The way you describe the Sunni/Shia conflict is not entirely accurate. To say that Sunni and Shia have been in conflict for over a thousand years is the same as saying that Protestants and Catholics have been in conflict for the past five hundred years. On many occasions, the two groups have clashed, but in many parts of the world the two have coexisted peacefully. You make it sound like the Sunni and the Shia are arch enemies of each other, which is not the case whatsoever. In many cases when a Sunni family moves to a Shia area, or visa versa, the family will convert without much consideration. The civil war in Iraq boils down to much more than sectarian conflict.

Ok, First off you idiots C and kandy quit righting in all caps, it makes you look as dumb as the congressman. This article just goes to show how incompetent our government is becoming. I lived in the middle east for 9 years and know the difference between sunni’s and shia quite well, but how can the people who decided to go to war with another country not know the basics of its religion/government(the shia’s were ruled by the sunni minority which caused even more of a schism between the two sects).
