Pastor Who Resigned over Gay Hooker Claims Is Bush’s ‘Spiritual Consigliere

Rev. Ted Haggard, who counsels Pres. Bush on a weekly basis and has been called his spiritual consigliere,” resigned today as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and as pastor of the megachurch he founded in Colorado Springs because a gay prostitute says he’s been having sex for pay with Haggard for more than three years.

Rev. Haggard is closer to the president than his better-known rival, Dr. James Dobson, head of the anti-gay nonprofit group, Focus on the Family, which is also headquartered in Colorado Springs:

The press tends to regard Dobson as the most powerful evangelical Christian in America, but Pastor Ted is at least his equal.

Whereas Dobson plays the part of national scold, promising to destroy politicians who defy the Bible, Pastor Ted quietly guides those politicians through the ritual of acquiescence required to save face.

He doesn’t strut, like Dobson; he gushes. When Bush invited him to the Oval Office to discuss policy with seven other chieftains of the Christian right in late 2003, Pastor Ted regaled his whole congregation with the story via email.

“Well, on Monday I was in the World Prayer Center,” New Life’s high-tech, 24 hour-a-day prayer chapel, — and my cell phone rang. It was a presidential aide; “the President,” says Pastor Ted, wanted him on hand for the signing of the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act.

Pastor Ted was on a plane the next morning and in the President’s office the following afternoon.

“It was incredible,” wrote Pastor Ted. He left it to the press to note that Dobson wasn’t there.

Mike Jones, the male escort, says he did not know Haggard’s identity until he saw him on television. Jones says he has voicemails and other proof of his relationship with Haggard and will release them tomorrow.

In an interview excerpted on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann tonight, Jones also said that Rev. Haggard used methamphetamines during their sexual encounters.

Haggard was in the news in September when he disavowed his appearance in the controversial documentary “Jesus Camp,” which exposed the indoctrination of children into Christian nationalism at a summer camp in the Midwest.

Let’s see now, we have weekly counseling from a gay minister and unfettered access to the White House by a gay prostitute.

Is there another elephant sitting in the room here?

Ted Haggard is what I call a “petty moralist,” and he is well within the norms of American religious history. You would think that these guys would learn from the examples of Aimee Simple McPherson, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker and other “petty moralists” who become wealthy and influential by wagging a finger at everybody else’s sin. They are worse than the Pharisees that Jesus rails against in the New Testement. And the fact that this guy is a Bush confidant is very telling. I wonder if Teddy and Georgie were snorting meth and diddling each other when nobody was looking?

I think there must have been quite a few gay encounters going on at the White House since that gay escot Gannon was around. NOw it turns out this Haggard was a spiritual adviser to Bush. What more juicy things we will find out after Bush leaves office.

You just can’t make stuff like this up. And at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out Georgie does Turd Blossom in the Oval Office while Jeff Gannon poses nude on the desk.

JONES – 1. A strong, overwhelming desire for anything you indulge in or acquire and never get enough of – money, sex, chocolate, gambling, clothes, etc. Originally referred to addiction to heroin or cocaine.
A “Jones” is a habit or addiction.
You can have a “Traveling Jones”
You can have a “Basketball Jones”
    (Cheech & Chong )
You can have a “Keeping up with the Joneses Jones”
Pastor Ted Haggard has a “Mike Jones, Male Escort Jones”

I am not surprised one bit. These mega/meta churches are more about marketing, money, and “success” than they are about authentic spirituality. Take a look at the most prominent Evangelical “leaders”, they aren’t founts of spiritual wisdom…they are rich bigoted buffoons. Where are our Mother Theresas? Where are our Ghandis?
Certainly not in the pulpit of a megachurch.

WHEN WE SEE THE AMISH IN THEIR TRAGEDY TRULY EXUDE CHRISTIANITY AND NEVER TRY TO LEGISLATE RELIGION ….AND THEN WE SEE THE POL/CHURCHES AND THE PEOPLE WHO USE THEM FOR POWER….MAYBE SOME PEOPLE WILL START TO SEE SOME LIGHT IN THE TEACHINGS OF THAT “HIPPIE LIBERAL” JESUS

As noted by Michael O. above, there seems to be an intersection here with gay male prostitutes. I wonder when CREW will ask for the Secret Service visitor records to see how often the faux reporter’s and the preacher’s visits to the White House coincided. Explains a lot about the “Village People” president.

Let’s see, the White House had their own personal journalist, Gannnon/Guckert and now their ‘Spiritual Consigliore‘ sounds like he could have been using the services of the ‘personal journalist.’ Geez… gotta love these guys for their great moral standing.

Oh no, not a gusher! Is there no end to this man’s transgressions? I guess Bush had a rip-roaring, pig-snorting, hoe down whenever Ted the Gusher showed up for his weekly forages into the inter-sanctum of the Oval Orifice.

Amazing…I just found out that a distant cousin in the extended baptist hysteric wing of my family, married, with two children, was having an affair with the family’s minister, actually became pregnant by him, and of course, delivered the baby. Another member of that wing is a sixteen year old girl found to be having unprotected sex with multiple partners. Makes us in the smaller liberal agnostic wing of the family look like a bunch of freakin’ puritans. I’m a lefty and my lifestyle does’nt even come close! Maybe rank hypocrisy really does jazz things up. Any comments, Jimmy Swaggart?

The rev falwell is insisting he’s not that familiar with rev ted either and I have a hard time believing that since they seem to be a close knit closeted/perv/weird community..

The GAY part doesn’t bother me. The HYPOCRISY does! These guys aren’t gay. They’re homosexual, but not gay. Gay is when you accept your sexuality and live it openly to your friends, neighbors, co-workers and family. These people did not do that. They are closeted for sure. Hypocrites absolutely. October was National Coming out Month, they had their chance. At least that part is being done, though involuntarily!
Come out, come out wherever you are!

The lust for comfort murders truth and reason, and, then, walks grinning in the funeral (to paraphrase K Giran’s Prophet). Our political hacks and religeous qwax are masters of hypocracy and charisma. Why are we surprised by their antics? We all do it…and have done it for thousands of years. The thing that really alarms and saddens me about all this is that is indicative of our species continuing and inexoroble slide towards extinction. Our inbred lust for comfort mandates that we can and will say, do and beleive anything to satiate that lust. People! Be comfortable! And die!
