Groundwork Laid for Cheney’s Ouster – One Step Closer to V.P. McCain

Novak Changes Bush’s Loyalty Meme

The latest Evans-Novak Political Report suggests the way President Bush fired Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld caused considerable friction in the White House. “Even Vice President Dick Cheney is said to be profoundly disturbed by Rumsfeld’s treatment.”

Pres. George W. Bush might never be impeached, but he could be forced to resign as a result of the coming investigations by the Democrats. If he and his co-conspirator, Vice Pres. Cheney, were to resign together, Speaker Pelosi would become president. Any risk of this is intolerable, so Cheney has to go first.

Unhappy with Bush, the GOP establishment will want Sen. John McCain to replace Cheney. If Bush resigns, Pres. McCain would serve out the rest of his term and then enjoy the sublime benefit of barnstorming the country in 2008 on Air Force One. (The fact that McCain and Bush hate each other would be icing on the cake.)

I expected to hear rumors about Cheney after the holidays: his health problems are flaring up, he is bored in his diminished role and wants to return to business — or that he and Bush are having a major spat — but why wait:

The latest Evans-Novak Political Report suggests the way President Bush fired Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld caused considerable friction in the White House. “Even Vice President Dick Cheney is said to be profoundly disturbed by Rumsfeld’s treatment.”

…[Robert] Novak also suggests Bush’s “shrouded decision” came after he declared Rumsfeld would serve out the second term. “It fits a pattern of a President who is secretive and impersonal.”

Wait. I thought Bush was “loyal to a fault?” Did Novak unilaterally change the president’s meme? If so, did it come from Karl?

Groundwork Laid for Cheney’s Ouster – One Step Closer to V.P. McCain

If both Pres. Bush and Vice Pres. Cheney are forced to resign as a result of coming investigations, Speaker Pelosi would become president. To prevent this, Cheney will go first, to be replaced with McCain, who would move up if Bush resigns. Sound far-…

Can we please have congressional investigation and criminal prosecution of Cheney anyway?

Democrats were satisfied with Papa Bush being voted out in ‘92 and didn’t pursue charges on Iran Contra or the October Surprise, and their thanks for that was a decade of the GOP trying to look in Bill Clinton’s pants, and then an assault on our democracy.

The Democrats have had the upper hand on the vampire a couple of times just as the sun was coming up, but instead of dragging him into the light to turn to dust, they drag him back into the shade so he can live to fight another day.

I have become convinced that the Republican Party has been nothing but a criminal conspiracy ever since the “dump the hump” campaign. Google that youngsters.

    WE NEED THE FOLLOWING INVESTIGATIONS:
    IRAN CONTRA
    DIEBOLD VOTING MACHINES
    VOTER REGISTRATION SCAMS.

YES THAT WILL HAPPEN!!!! FOR THEY DO NOT WANT TO TAKE THE CHANCE ON LOOSING THE WHITE HOUSE BEFORE 08 SO THEY WILL GET RID OF CHISSY SO THEY CAN GET THE UNDERDOG MCCAIN PUT IN!!! THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO KILL HIMSELF IF THE DEMS GOT CONTROL OF THE GOV!!!!! WONDER IF HE WILL PARDON BUSHY AFTER BUSHEY TREATED HIM THE WAY HE DID IN 2000—-WELL I PROBABLY KNOW! YES HE WILL BE SO LOW LIFED AS TO DO IT!!!!!!!

  6. mike villers November 23, 2006 @ 6:13 pm

Well I guess we better get a move on with the impeachment quick – and just before the vote goes down, Pelosi can step aside for Al Gore to be elected speaker (you don’t have to be a member of the house to be speaker) – then he can move up to the presidency the country intended him to have back in 2000. Gore/Kerry ‘07!!

  7. Mahatma Kane Jeeves November 23, 2006 @ 7:20 pm

Yeah but they have to be impeached simultaneously. If Cheney is impeached first, Bush will appoint McCain who, ala Ford, will pardon Bush. If Bush is impeached first, he’ll resign to avoid it, Cheney will become Prez and appoint ??, who will pardon Cheney when he is impeached. It’s gotta be both at once or we are fucked even worse.

What, Bush – McCain hate? “Well” (to quote Reagan), identicals DO repel!

  9. Gandhi November 23, 2006 @ 8:12 pm

Neocons will do anything to keep presidency. And since Cheney is going out anyway, why not replace him a little earlier. Even if it means replacing him with McCain.
And, to achieve nothing, it doesn’t matter whether it’s Bush/Cheney or Bush/McCain.

Don’t see it. McCain is too uncontrollable, too much of a wild card. The party bosses — of which Cheney is one — want a malleable puppet like Bush. McCain’s time has come and gone and he’s become nothing but a wild-eyed ranter now. Plus in 2008 he’ll be two years older than Reagan was when he got elected and he looks and sounds nowhere near as dynamic, energetic or comfortingly grandfatherly. I think all talk about a McCain presidency is empty. I also think if Cheney didn’t leave before the 2006 elecctions, he’s not leaving.

  12. hobojo November 24, 2006 @ 8:47 am

McCain is pathetic Bush and Rove castrated him in 2000 and he continues to TRY and say he is straight talker while only a shrill for Bush and cohorts agenda.Stick a fork in him he is done as presidentual contender in 08.He lies as often as Bush and just as sneaking in every way.

remember that ford never won the election, he finished out nixon’s term. he lost to carter because he pardoned nixon. if bush or cheney resign, this is a win-win situation for dems. mccain is a loser, you should hear the negativism about him here in arizona.

I am not sure but I do not know if there is even a prvision for Impeaching both the Prez. and VP at the same time. Now if they were killed in an accident or possibbly assasinated at the same time then of course the Speaker of the House would assume the Prez Post. It seems to me a long process of Impeachment would give plenty of opportunity to plan for a succesor to Bushes liking. Personally I think Bush should stay so that every morning he wakes up he has to stare at the reality he has created and live with it. It will be so much more painful thne getting off the hook with Impeachment. Each day that goes by he will realize that more and more people realize what fraud he is. I suspect that aftr awhile some will even feel sorry for the prick!

It sounds to me that the pre emptive activities to take place in the near future have been already been discussed in the back rooms …. with the outcome to be that of resignation .. sounds deju vu all over again .. a NIXON thing.
However the democrats must remember the Neo Con Republicans do not like woman with too much power.. look at the results of Martha Stuart.. Oprah knows better.. and Pelosi better convince the Oprahs and Marthas of the world she needs the money to gain the power needed to keep the female gender as a part of the powerful political scene.. They are as qualified as the Bushs and Cheneys but are female …
The democrats better wise up and get their troops together and make Pelosi the most powerful woman for now until Clinton takes office in 2008 ..
    a democrat
    REMEMBER
    Democracy is a democrat
    can you …. cy

  16. Cheney resign? Are you kidding? Cheney is not going to resign or allow anyone to kick him out of office, especially Sen McCain. Why do you think they passed the Military Commissions Act of 2006?

There is better chance of disappearing Democrats from Congress than there is of Cheney or Bush leaving office before 01/09. In fact, there is a better chance of Bush/Cheney still being in office after 01/09.

However, if the Bush/Cheney administration does resort to such desperate mesures, there is also a good chance they will ignite a fire under the exploited masses. Then, as angry demonstrators surround the White House with a 24/7 siege, Bush/Cheney will have no choice other than to resign simultaneously.

Welcome to the White House President Pelosi.

What these guys desperately need is another crisis…and since George W. has outlived his usefulness to the Republicans, it makes sense for them to orchestrate his demise…like the loss of Air Force One…then all talk of Cheney leaving will disappear. Bush will become a martyr in the “war on terror” and Cheney will be praised for his “steady hand at the wheel.” during this “national emergency.” oh yeah and he’ll use the excuse of terrorism to declare virtual martial law..

  20. David Kaiser November 24, 2006 @ 3:22 pm

Guys…get a life. Bush will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER resign. Nor would this Senate ever vote to convict him. Cheney’s health is suspect, of course, but only natural causes would force his renewal. It’s not that I’m happy about the situation we’re in, I just think we have to face facts.

  21. Rick November 24, 2006 @ 4:26 pm

I think this scenario is wrong on at least four counts.

First, Bush doesn’t really like McCain. Bush holds grudges tight and long, and I think he believes it was an affront to run against him in 2000, and he really doesn’t want to see McCain get the Presidency. Also, in his pea brain McCain may be more popular than Bush–and how really difficult would that be–and that would tear him up probably more than if, say, Hillary, was elected.

Two: Would McCain even take the job? Does McCain really want to be plauged with the stench of the Bush administration, with the war, the scandals, the unpopularity? Does he really want to be a surragote? I mean Bush may ultimately be impeached, but there are probably not enough votes in the Senate to remove him from office. And removal of Bush is the only way this can work for McCain.

Third, if McCain leaves the Senate, then a Democratic Governor apponts the next AZ. Senator. That puts 52 Demos. in the Senate and pretty much makes McCain’s Ass-kissing buddy Lie-berman irrelevant.

Fourth, appointing McCain makes it much more likely that Bush could be removed from office by the Congress.

I hate to say it–because the thought of it is just another horrible nightmare–but Bush appoints Jebbie Baby as Veep and dares the Dems to reject Jeb or go after George.

The Bush Crime Syndicate continues, and we get more years of war, waste, and wretchedness. A perfect outcome for the Neo-Cons and and the BCS.

Totally off topic, but I have to praise you for linking to alibris.com for books instead of amazon.com. I don’t think people realize that the money they spend on books by progressives at amazon goes to help fund wingnut causes.

    Again, bravo!!

  23. Madison November 25, 2006 @ 6:21 am

It won’t be up to Bush. If he resigns, it will be because the people who care more about the Republican Party — and wielding power — than they care about George Bush have forced him to leave.

It does sound far-fetched but a scenario like this has played out before. Vice Pres. Agnew resigned, was replaced with Rep. Gerald Ford. Then Pres. Nixon resigned and Ford became president.

  24. [...] In November, we predicted that Vice Pres. Dick Cheney would be ousted in 2007, “resigning” purportedly due to health problems or an overwhelming need to get back to the private sector. [...]
