In her end-of-the-year interview with People magazine, First Lady Laura Bush offered this unscripted assessment of the reasons Sec. of State Condoleeza Rice won’t run for president:
“Probably because she is single, her parents are no longer living, she’s an only child. You need a very supportive family and supportive friends to have this job,” the First Lady said.
Michael Kinsley said a gaffe is when a politician accidentally speaks the truth. Laura was clearly speaking off the cuff, and she certainly made Condi sound too weak and needy to be president.
Maybe Laura forgot that Queen Elizabeth I was single the entire 49 years she was queen of England. History remembers her as an accomplished world leader, who excelled in a male-dominated world.
Or maybe Laura remembered America’s only president who was single. James Buchanan was the 15th president, a one-termer who served immediately prior to Lincoln. Historians generally believe Buchanan’s failure of leadership put the country on a glidepath to civil war. Because of this, Buchanan was widely regarded to be the Worst President Ever until, the title that now belongs to George W. Bush.
Condi can’t be president because she has a record of egregious incompetence and a political tin ear. Her marital status is irrelevant.

Why are the Republicans so affraid of this man?
With two years to go before the Presidential Election, they seem to be terrified of Obama. I have not heard enough of Senator Obama’s ideas to have an idea one way or the other, but I find it entertaining…
Actually, we’re not afraid of Obama at all. We want him to run against Hillary. Hillary’s negatives are still at 45%, and Obama’s greatest achievement was to have beaten Alan Keyes in an election.
Alan Keyes couldn’t beat Paul Tibbets for Mayor of Hiroshima.
Look, either Hillary or Obama will be beaten by Rudy in ‘08, especially Barack. Barack’s a nice guy, but if he happens to be Hildy’s VP and gets in a VP debate with Rice, she’ll beat him like a red-headed stepchild. It won’t even be close.
He’s a good man who is making the mistake of believeing his own press clippings. Problem is, he has to go now. If he waits till 2016, he’s Old News.
But nobody’s scared of him over on the Red Team. We’re not really even scared of Hillary anymore.
You guys “on the RED TEAM”are sumpthin’ else!
As “BUSHCO & GANG” have done such a good job of screwing up the works with all the good help from the self-same “RED TEAM” you and yours CAN NOT REALLY QUALIFY AS BEING ANY TOO BRIGHT FOR OPENERS, and far sure you are not “bright enough” to be afraid of anything, as you obviously had “both eyes open” when you went with the “FRAT BRAT” in the first place…..So cool it with your “drum thumpin’ here”, and have a good long rest……
Oh shut the hell up, oldgringo. If you can’t talk politics without screaming in ALLCAPS, then you, sir, are part of the fucking problem. One of the things I like about young Mr. Obama is that he doesn’t scream at people like so many other people in your party do. You should calm down and learn from him.
Angry partisanship is part of the problem in this country. Both parties aren’t talking to the broad middle classes in this country. If you think your party leaders are talking the talk, you’re living in a dreamland.
Stop screaming, start thinking.
