Laura Bush on Iraq: ‘No One Suffers More Than [the] President and I’

Double standard: On the Today Show this morning, First Lady Laura Bush was asked what she thought about the damage the war in Iraq was doing to the American people. Her answer, which came without a pause, may have been revelatory:

ANN CURRY: Do you know the American people are suffering… watching [Iraq]?

LAURA BUSH: Oh, I know that very much, and, believe me, no suffers more than their president and I do when we watch this. And certainly the commander-in-chief who has asked our military to go into harm’s way.

AC: What do you think the American people need to know…

LB: Well, I hope they do know the burden of worry that’s on his shoulders every single day for our troops. And I think they do. I think if they don’t, they’re not seeing what the real responsibilities of our president are.

AC: It must be hard for you to watch him in this.

LB: It’s hard. Of course, it’s absolutely hard.

The was an egregious misstatement. The Bushes do not suffer more than the families of the dead and wounded, obviously. It bespeaks an aristocratic ennui — “If only the little people knew how much we royals suffer.”

Last week, when Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid accused the president, Sec. of State Condoleeza Rice and other top Bush aides of knowing the war in Iraq is lost, just as Nixon and Sec. of State Henry Kissinger knew that Vietnam was lost but continued to send men there to die, the media and the GOP reported a much shorter version: “Sen Reid said the war is lost.”

Republicans have been having a field day with this misquote for over a week. The majority leader has demoralized our troops, they say, without providing any evidence that this is so. As late as yesterday, Vice Pres. Cheney called Sen. Reid a “defeatist.”

Compared with the treatment Reid continues to receive, the media and even the Democrats will give the first lady a pass, even though if a similar statement were made by a Democratic first lady, the media and the Republicans would tear her to shreds.

Finally, the interviewer, Ann Curry, did not ask Mrs. Bush about rumors that she and her husband were living apart because he had resumed drinking. I doubt Curry would have passed on the opportunity 10 years ago to ask First Lady Hillary Clinton if tabloid rumors were true.

I don’t have time to waste on the preposterous pretensions to humanity from a detatched White House gun-moll. Get back with me when your spoiled, callow daughters are dodging IED shrapnel in the streets of Bagdhad; or when they come back from their third forced deployment with missing limbs or brain injuries.

At least Pickles is showing she still feels some remorse or regret. But to say that “no suffers more than their president and I do…” is simply nauseating. When one of the twins comes home in a box, talk to us about suffering.

As a WW2 combat veteran, I don’t watch these idiotic morning shows, so I’m glad I didn’t catch Laura’s stupid statement about her and her numbed husband’s grief. Picture ten of our soldiers dead and over twenty wounded and mulitply that by the hundreds since her husband lied us into a war without end. That Curry woman is no Helen Thomas.

My heart is just bursting with pride knowing that we are blessed with such a caring first couple. The anguish that I feel pales in comparison with that described in her candid comments. I’m sure she would feel better if all the tv’s in the White House were turned off and she didn’t have to see the carnage. I would do that for her, wouldn’t you?

Why doesn’t anybody ask the pickled cunt about the lover-boy she ran over, (while drunk-driving), lo these many years ago. I hope that there is a vengeful God. Laura, George, Adolph, Karl, Paul, Richard, and DICK all have 3:00p.m. daily pineapple insertions, (from satan), to enjoy while suffering the eternal torment they so deserve. I wouldn’t piss on any of these mother-fuckers even if they were on fire!

So other people’s family die and are maimed and we are supposed to feel sorry for the Bush family? Oh get me a violin and the sheet for Hearts and Roses!!! These people have no feelings other than for themselves. Isn’t like Jenna and sister are of to serve in Iraq or Afghanistan as foot soldiers now is it! Laura B can just go **** off! Not a nice thing to say but is exactly how a lot of people feel. What happened to the republican party? Ike was one but I don’t think he’d be welcomed by the ghouls who now run it! They are good at getting American soldiers killed and American cities flooded but lousy at getting anything good for the US done. Bring back Ike!

So the pseudo-Texan and his prune faced wife suffer do they? I guess that’s why we’ve seen so many photos of them attending the funerals of our fallen sons and daughters.

How can she still look so lovingly and smilingly as she did, during the annual correspondent’s dinner, at her prick of a husband?

Separated or not, she is still clearly playing the part she was given when King George was appointed president.

Geezus, Laura, you probably wouldn’t know ordinary people’s pain if it was injected into you. Lord have mercy.

They suffer sooo much. Did you see today’s video of Bush dancing… yes dancing… and banging a drum of African players on the White House lawn? He had the white man overbite (a billy crystal joke in When Harry Met Sally) and Laura the boyfriend killer was dancing right along with him. These people have no shame and no souls. It’s a travesty and a tragedy that they are in the White House. If there was any real justice in the world, these two would be in prison and their slutty spawn would be partying Iraq.

If they suffer so much, why not continually fly the flags at half mast in honor of the dead troops. Why not? Because it would remind people of the daily deaths. These two are the coldest people on earth.

I am just curious why I cannot find this on the Today Show website. I can look up information on putting a baby to bed, Martha Stewart’s cleaning tips and how the Idol competition is heating up; however, the First Lady of the United States was on their show this morning and I cannot seem to find it. Even if I search Laura Bush, I can only find where she and Ann Curry went to Africa. Did they pull it because they have gotten too many negative comments?

Marcy, even on CNN this morning, they showed the video of the Bushes dancing on the lawn (not easy to view since he is so digusting to watch) and laughed it off.

No mention of the fact that they danced on the same day that Laura bemoaned their suffering over the deaths in Iraq.

Other than articles like this and shows like Keith Olbermann who actually made the connection of Bush dancing while Iraq burns (not in those words), we have media that we simply cannot trust.

No matter what we’re fed on the news, we must always question what they’re NOT telling us, and how much of what they say is editorializing instead of reporting.

When stories the Virginia Tech horror and Don Imus pop up our news channels jump on them, initially because they are valid stories.

Then they spend days and weeks rehashing them as a way of avoiding the stories they’re not covering but should be.

Like the massive corruption of our president and his administration.

Like the questions and credible evidence of their involvement in 9/11.

Like things that Woodward and Bernstein wouldn’t let slither away.

Had we had an actual, untarnished media in 2000, the corrupt American elections wouldn’t have been shrugged off and the people behind them would be now in prison.

Instead we were told to ‘get over it’ and ‘move on’.

The media has more influence than we realize and by not doing their jobs, we now have a president who wasn’t elected (twice), experienced a disaster that never should have happened, and are in a war that never should have been allowed to happen.

So GW pick a girl just like Mom. That is so touching.
Draft the twins. When they come back after being raped by a fellow officer while on the way to the latrine and with half their heads blown off and a leg or two missing perhaps then I might believe Laura will know what suffering is.
GW would still not get it because it didn’t happen to him personally.

Neither the Stepford wife nor her blithering, sociopathic husband could SPELL “pain,” muchless FEEL anything resembling it, when it concerns another person. God forgive me, but each day I find a new level of loathing for these monsters….

Thank you, Patsy! “Stepford” is exactly the word I was searching for to describe Laura Bush. The woman admitted to the fact that politics don’t interest her – obviously she’s buttering up the big boss Bushie for the $$$$!! There are words for that behavior!

The only thing that could cause Laura and W to suffer is if they don’t get their narcissistic supply. Sociopathic narcissists like this pair don’t suffer over minor (to them) things like the deaths of soldiers. If one fails to recognize Bush as Dear Leader, though, that causes Bushie and Laura great suffering.

This woman is seriously deluded as well as insulated against real human suffering. When are these people going to wake up and smell the coffee? And if this is such an honorable venture in Iraq, why aren’t their coddled daughters involved in any way, shape, or form in its execution? I cannot stand this regime and Laura Bush is just another patsy in the whole debacle!! How many more need to die in Iraq before the American people are willing to stand up and cry “no more?” It is unconscionable that the US is involved in an unprovoked war and not calling for real accountability.

Yah, and the Methodist Church ain’t doing so well either now days. They have their little dictators, and bankrupters in their pulpits too. And guess what them is bush supporters too, and don’t give a hoot about siding with the victims or missing persons & even if their abusive suspected “masters” (xhusbands)are suspected….well the so–called pastors in texas (at least) take up their cause, as though it was their own.
