Her baby is due in “late spring 2007″ which, granted, is now, but it seems hardly anyone has noticed that Mary Cheney, the vice president’s lesbian daughter, and her partner, Heather Poe, were not on the guest list for the state dinner at the White House honoring Queen Elizabeth this week.
Mary’s non-gay sister Liz and Liz’s opposite-sex married partner were at the dinner, as were, of course, her parents.
Mary Cheney has said her baby is not a political prop, but you have to wonder if it was decided that the presence of the vice president’s hugely pregnant lesbian daughter at an event honoring the Queen of England was a bit too off-message for the ultra-rightwingers who run the country.
Let’s hope that Mary and Heather were at least allowed to eat in the pantry and then peek through a doorway to watch all the fun.

Why Wasn’t Mary Cheney at the White House State Dinner for the Queen?…
Mary Cheney’s baby is due very soon but the State Dinner for the Queen was such a huge event that it seems odd that she and her partner Heather weren’t there — especially since her nongay sister Liz and her spouse were. Maybe the prospect of the VP…
Gee, and I thought I was the only one who noticed!
Dave, I noticed, too. Obviously SOMEONE didn’t want Mary Cheney waddling in, big as a rain barrel and covered with a suitable maternity gown, escorted by her partner. Or I should say, “waddling in and out” of the room, as from experience I recall how as one’s due date nears, it’s unwise to stray too far from the ladies’ room.
Not only that, but Nancy Pelosi was the only Democrat invited, whilst there were 3 Republican senators at the dinner.
Were the Bush Twins there? The party animals that they are could have shown the Queen how we Americans REALLY party, just like they did in that hotel in Argentina!
