It’s not their checkered pasts, their questionable financial dealings, or even their bizarre religious tenets. You know what really scares the Republican candidates for the presidency? We do.
After pulling a party-line no-show at the recent National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) convention, aka, THE event for Latino movers and shakers, they are now discovering a rash of scheduling conflicts at the prospect of facing the chilling YouTube questioners in debate.
Just like with the Latino forum, all the Democratic candidates participated in the recent YouTube debate led by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. But Republicans, including Rudy Giulliani, are balking.
Republican presidential front-runner Rudy Giuliani may have better things to do than answer YouTube users’ questions at the GOP debate in St. Petersburg.
The news broke late Thursday that the former New York City mayor has scheduling issues with the Sept. 17 date, jeopardizing the showdown at the Mahaffey Theater…
Giuliani campaign officials could not be reached late Thursday to elaborate on the specific scheduling conflicts.
Mitt Romney — who recently faced derision and questions about his common sense for strapping his dog in its carrier to the top of his car during a 12-hour drive, causing the animal to defecate over his windshield — came right out and said the format is beneath his dignity.
“I think the presidency ought to be held at a higher level than having to answer questions from a snowman,” Romney told the Manchester (N.H.) Union Leader this week.
Only John McCain and Ron Paul have accepted; all the other Republicans are still checking their calendars.
The Republican candidates, or should we say middle-aged white guys in black suits, are obviously more comfortable with the old snore-fest format of moderator asking question and candidates answering question.
If the chickenhawks chicken out, it will be a blow to Florida’s Republican governor, Charlie Crist, whose Serve to Preserve Climate Summit to address global warming already made party hardliners in Tallahassee uncomfortable. The debate is the highest profile event since Crist and others had the Florida primary moved up in the 2008 cycle.

Giuliani doesn’t want to answer questions that aren’t pre-supplied so he can tailor his talking points around the query.
HRM Romney thinks the You Tube format is beneath his dignity.
As if the hilarious CNN Wolf Blitzer debates are dignified.
Watching part of that “dog and pony” show made me flashback to my 3rd grade year at a Catholic elementary school where one had to raise their hand to get permission to go to the bathroom.
What a crock of BS from both of these charlatans.
Two more Mussolini wannbe’s running for president.
Some of the interesting questions during a YouTube session for hypocrites…er…uh…Democrats could center on the climate debate.
Why is Al Gore’s utility bill ~2000.00 a month? Why does Gore have a carbon footprint at least 10 times the average person’s? All the Clintons and Gores, (and the Bonos, Madonnas) of the world seem to get a free pass for their hypocrisy from supposedly intelligent people. Let’s all hold hands and sing “We are the world” while the “Liberals”, “Socialists” (sorry for the profanity) and “Democrats” (sorry again) pull the wool over everyone’s eyes.
As for “White guys in black suits”, Yo, they beat some little “thug” wearing his momma’s stockings on his head who’s only interested in gettin paid and gettin that “holla back”. Think having one of your “boyz” in office would be “tight”?
Yo “Democrats” “iz tryin ta” “git paid” like all the rest.
Once again the “Democrats” (oops, sorry) prove they are the embodiment of BS, hypocrisy and disingenuous pandering, among many other things.
IF, and this is a big IF, you “Democrats” are objective then prove it. Working together doesn’t involve partisan venom like yours. We can all “play dat” Yo.
The Reeps are stuck twixt a sharp rock and a concrete-hard place. If they field questions from the public on YouTube, they won’t be able to pitch back any weasel-word answers. If they try to escape that confrontation by avoiding it altogether, unlike the Democrats, then the Reeps show themselved up as hypocrites. Serves them right; they’re sowing what they’ve reaped.
Romney: ““I think the presidency ought to be held at a higher level than having to answer questions from a snowman.”
He couldn’t mean Tony Snow, now, could he? Probably not.
From “Greg”: “Let’s all hold hands and sing “We are the world” while the “Liberals”, “Socialists” (sorry for the profanity) and “Democrats” (sorry again) pull the wool over everyone’s eyes.” (ETC)
Hey, “Greg,” do you ever think about what you’re writing before you commit it to posting? Crawl back into your septic tank and stay there.
“Why is Al Gore’s utility bill ~2000.00 a month?”
Is that from the latest tirade from “Mr. Dopey”, Reich Limbaugh?
Here’s a question:
How many more Iraqi’s have to be slaughtered and how many more of our troops have to be killed to satisfy Der Fuhrer, GW Bush’s blood lust?
And then this little gem:
“Once again the “Democrats” (oops, sorry) prove they are the embodiment of BS, hypocrisy and disingenuous pandering.”
Sorry bubba, but your Republican party wrote the book on those endearing qualities.
As long as we’re talking about electric bills, check out what we’re paying for Cheney’s electric bill:
Why Is Cheney’s Electric Bill $186,000?

The House Appropriations Committee voted Tuesday to send the electric bill for the vice president’s residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory to the Navy instead of to the executive branch. Press accounts estimated the cost of this year’s bill at $186,000. Why is the veep’s electric bill so high?
The average Washington, D.C., residential customer pays less than $700 for electricity each year. But the vice president’s electrical needs exceed those of your average apartment dweller. The Navy encourages reporters to think of the vice president’s three-story residence as a small business, not a home. The 33-room, approximately 10,000-square-foot residence on Massachusetts Avenue contains not only the veep’s living quarters, but also communications equipment and security systems that must function 24 hours a day, as well as surveillance lights that glow all night long. The local power company doesn’t have an estimate for its average commercial customer.

Think you’ll have time to read this before your next Klan meeting?
Liberals who pander to the lowest common denominator simply fortify the belief that their arguements possess little to no substance within your blatherings.
Your response to Gore’s $2,000 utility bill - “Oh Rush Limbaugh must be stating that” - come on - why don’t you create debate. The reason doesn’t even need to be expounded upon - Mr Global warming. And for the crap arguement that he reduces his carbon footprint by purchasing carbon offsets - so it underscores the fact, if you’re rich you can get away with it. Fantastic, you’ve just shored up the Republican stronghold
By the way, why don’t you purchase a greeting card to save the earth too? http://www.nativeenergy.com/cards.html
How many more troops have to be killed in Iraq. Not sure of the debate here. When was war EVER clean with no casualties? The liberals seem to feel hiding behind innocent troop deaths can justify the cause of political, economic and human advancement. Question to you - HOW many innocent Iraqi lives have been saved due to our involvement? Would you believe simply ignoring human travesty justifiable? I’m sure you’re the same guy who hides behind his newspaper if your child were to be pushed around by a bully “What should I do Daddy?” , “Just turn the cheek son” - sure you do.
“BS, hypocrisy and disingenuous pandering?” - Listen, I’m man enough to know and admit there are few politician on either side of the fence that can support blindly either agenda.
As far as the VP’s electric bill. The next time he goes and pounds the podium and demands that we embrace the idea of global warming then I’ll care. Additionally, did you actually read that “Slate” article. Sure it’s his house but it also houses essentially a business. Why don’t you think about taking a look at ANY successful person’s electric bill? I bet you George Soro pay’s a bit more than $150 a month
Yes, that is why liberals have to lean on garbage controversy versus solid conversations.
By the way Hillary - why did Chelsea go to public school versus private - oh security issues - I understand….
Randy -
Do you even bother to read what you write?
Liberals pander to the lowest common denominator? If rightwingers didn’t pander to homophobes, religious nuts and gun-totin’ mouth-breathers they’d couldn’t be elected dog catcher, much less to federal office.
I understand it’s tough for the right because reality really does have a liberal bias, but facts are facts and Gore did the offset and that is how the program works. It’s strange that now that rightwingers hate the rich.
Republicans have forced the worst president in American history onto this country twice. Bush and his worshipful, unquestioning supporters, along with their running dogs in the “liberal media,” led us into war on a pack of lies, for which the “planning” was feloniously incompetent and the execution has even been worse. It was designed to fail, and now they’re seeking to blame what comes next — an all-out bloody civil war after we leave — on their critics.
Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Was that just another GOP bumpersticker slogan that only applied to Democrats.
The invasion of Iraq failed the minute Cheney and Rumsfeld cooked it up, but now that failure is about to play out big time. Not one death in Iraq of either an American troop or an innocent Iraqi citizen is justified. Not one. It is hands-down the worst foreign policy disaster in the past 150 years, and Bush and all Bush lovers will wear it around their necks forever.
All the blood spilled in Iraq is on Republicans’ hands.
After seven and a half years of lies, incompetence and financial and sexual corruption — and not a single successful program or issue to point to — Republicans no longer have any rhetorical ground from which to hurl accusations and insults.
[…] One is tempted to think Republicans are going out of their way to come off as out of touch. How else do you explain their foot-dragging over a Republican YouTube debate, a shiny new platform which Democrats handled with grace and poise? Mitt Romney — who recently faced derision and questions about his common sense for strapping his dog in its carrier to the top of his car during a 12-hour drive, causing the animal to defecate over his windshield — came right out and said the format is beneath his dignity.
