Update: This story was originally about Bill O’Reilly’s hypocrisy in going after random comments left on DailyKos while ignoring hate-filled comments left on the Free Republic site. Last night, O’Reilly did half-heartedly criticize Free Republic for the hateful postings in its comments section, but really just focused on them briefly in order to provide himself with the opportunity to go through his litany of comments from DailyKos.

Here’s my original intro from yesterday, followed by the Freeper comments.

Bill O’Reilly has ramped up his fake outrage over DailyKos again yesterday, calling it “that hate site,” “vicious,” “beyond shameful … very offensive” and “haters.”

It strikes me that O’Reilly is purposefully ignoring the granddaddy of all hate sites, Free Republic. But then he could hardly be expected to criticize his core audience.

As usual, O’Reilly’s hypocrisy in going after DailyKos while giving a pass to Free Republic is never mentioned by the “liberal media.” One of his tactics is to have an intern read the DailyKos comments and cherrypick inflammatory excerpts to read on the air.

Taking a cue from Pam’s House Blend’s regular feature “Actual Freeper Quotes” (see specific examples here and here), I rounded up a small sampler of comments from the Free Republic site.

Keep in mind that Free Republic is heavily moderated, so these comments have been given a pass by the site’s operators:

Cheney should shoot Senate Judiciary Chair Patrick Leahy:

Maybe Cheney should take Leahy bird hunting in Texas ASAP!

No, he should take him elk or bear hunting. A 30-06 round will do Leahy much more good that a little birdshot!

Extreme hatred of gay people:

Homosexuals have a behivior which is based on a sexual fetish. ANYTHING done via civil/marriage unions is just a manipulation to sanction the sexual behavior of a man playing with another mans genitials (and vice versa for two females).

Society has absolutly no reason whatsoever to sanction such sexual recreation. Homosexuality contributes NOTHING to society. ZERO. Society rewards the institution not the individual. Homosexual are only concerned with individual orgasm recreation, not the benefit of society.

There is no reason, NONE, to give societal sanction because of a method of sexual release. Just because a homosexual squirts an orgasm with another homosexual is absolutly no reason to give them anything akin, similar, or comparative to the impramatur of marriage whether you use the word marriage or a synonym to fool the legally stupid.

odd how these articles are always written in a way to imply the homosexuals have the correct social stance.

A deviant engaging in such behavior is not an ethnic minority, but a deviant, sodomite, queer, fecal-obsessionist, faggot, etc, but certainly not an ethnic minority.

If the demonrats want to prove their committment, the purported males (Breck Girl, Algore, etc.) should peel down and let someone sodomize them right there on the stage, to open the debate.

Comparing liberals to Hitler and Stalin:

IMO, [Democrats] get their marching orders from [the Council on American-Islamic Relations] CAIR, La Raza, Hugo Chavez, and the ACLU. Not long ago, Freeper types hyperventilated over criticism of their Dear Leader, claiming that criticizing Bush equaled hating America. Look who hates America now:

GOP frontrunner Rudolph Giuliani is hated officially:

You’re in a hole. Stop digging. Openly supporting Giuliani is verboten on this website, as he opposes almost all of the ideals set forth in the mission statement on the front page.

Rudy is a liberal. You can whine, complain, obfuscate all you want until the cows come home but it’s not going to change the fact that Rudy is a liberal.

Conservatives aren’t going to support Rudy, and if Rudy wins the nomination, conservatives are going to stay home or vote 3rd party. The line in the sand has been drawn. The days of conservatives holding their noses are over.

Interestingly, in the 2000 race, Free Republic had a similar ban on posting good things about George W. Bush, the Republican frontrunner. It was rescinded after Bush cinched the nomination — a flipflop on principal that has proved to be a harbinger of a series of reversals on rightwing principals by Republicans since they seized power that year.

In a way, things have come full circle at Free Republic. Bush is in disfavor over his mishandling of immigration, and mentioning the name of the GOP frontrunner is verboten. If Giuliani wins the nomination, Freepers will be re-educated and a strict “no criticism of the new and glorious Dear Leader” policy will be strictly enforced on the site.

Meanwhile, back in reality, this is all just another pose by Bill O’Reilly. He fully understands that website operators can’t control what people post in comments sections. His attack on DailyKos has nothing whatever to do with the Kossacks or hate speech. Think about it: The basis of Bill O’Reilly’s schtick is the hatred for the left he spews every night. It’s what keeps Dittoheads and Freepers watching his show.

O’Reilly’s rants against DailyKos are part of a GOP strategy aimed at the Democratic candidates who are attending the YearlyKos convention this weekend. He’ll save the tapes and run them against whoever the Dem nominee is as an attempt to make him or her look bad to less liberal and enlightened voters in the general election.

What the Freepi can’t seem to grasp is that O’Reilly (and Roger Ailes and presumably Karl Rove) had to throw them under the bus because the GOP strategy for attacking the 2008 Dem nominee was being undermined by the obvious hypocrisy of letting Free Republic off the hook.
