While I agree with Fields anti-war message wholeheartedly, I think it’s a little naive to think that if women ran the world there wouldn’t be any wars. I wish that were true but all one has to do is study history to find women in the past who were all to anxious to pursue war also.

Why yes I do! But of course you can censor me as much as you please, because you’re not a government agency, which is what the First Amendment deals with. I’m hazy on the issues of TV censorship–was the network functioning in some governmental capacity when they cut her speech? If that’s the case, I’m appalled!

Ann, here’s some context for the QDJ: During her rambling Emmy Award acceptance speech Sunday night, Sally Field said that line. The network censored it. The network also censored a few expletives uttered by others over the course of the evening, but this was different — this was political speech, which last time I checked, was protected by the Constitution of the Benighted States of America. So, while the network cut naughty words to avoid having FCC fines levied, for political reasons, it cut Sally Fields’ anti-war statement. Thanks for your “rhetorical” question, and we hope you enjoy the freedom you have here on Pensito Review to ask questions and make statements without being censored.
