Bush takes a few — and we do mean few — minutes on Thanksgiving for the troops
In 2003, with his re-election campaign going into high gear, Bush hopped a plane and spent a little over two hours at the Baghdad Airport pretending to celebrate Thanksgiving with the troops.
That was the last time he made any show that the troops even cross his mind during the holidays or any other time. After all, he hasn’t run for anything since.
But his lackluster performance this year is still a surprise. Bush phoned a dozen service members from his Camp David retreat yesterday to tell them:
- He’s proud of them
- He’s impressed by their courage and compassion
- He asks for God’s blessing upon them
- Jeb, Neil, and Condi are waitin’ on him to watch the game, gotta go!
Bush did get one thing right. He said calling the troops was “the least I can do.”
