GOP’s Roger Stone Launches Anti-Clinton Group, Citizens United Not Timid – C.U.N.T.’

From the party of “family values” comes what may be the new low bar in American politics.

Earlier this year, an infamous, though quite mainstream, Republican Party operative quietly launched a new anti-Hillary Clinton 527 group called Citizens United Not Timid — yes, it really is C.U.N.T. The notorious operative behind it is Roger Stone, a protege of Richard Nixon who is known for his trademark impeccable grooming, a facade that masks as thoroughly sleazy a character as any operating in modern politics.

In case you’re unfamiliar with Stone’s exploits, here’s a brief overview:

In 1996, he was forced to resign from his volunteer role on Bob Dole’s presidential campaign after tabloids tracked down sexy ads he and his wife, Nydia, allegedly placed on a swingers’ website. In 2000, during the Bush v. Gore recount, Stone was chosen by Bush family consigliere, former Sec. of State James Baker, to lead the fake “Brooks Brothers mob” riots in Miami. In 2004, Stone secretly helped Democrat Al Sharpton launch his insurgent presidential bid.

Last summer, Stone was accused of making anonymous threatening phone calls to the 83-year-old father of New York’s Democratic governor, Eliot Spitzer. Listen to the message here, and here’s the transcript:

This is a message for Bernard Spitzer. You will be subpoenaed to testify before the [New York State] Senate Committee on Investigations on your shady campaign loans. You will be complelled by the Senate Sergeant at Arms. If you resist this subpoena, you will be arrested and brought to Albany. And there’s not a God damn thing your phony, psycho piece of shit son can do about it. Bernie, your phony loans are about to catch up with you. You will be forced to tell the truth. And the fact that your son’s a pathological liar will be known to all.

(Emphasis not added.)

In December, Stone, who lives in Miami, made news by warning Florida’s popular bachelor (and preternaturally tanned) governor, Charlie Crist, that if he wanted to be vice president, Crist had better get married because, Stone said, “Bachelors don’t get selected for vice president.” Maybe these days they don’t but in fact, William Rufus de Vane King, the 13th vice president and longtime senator from Alabama, was a confirmed bachelor, nicknamed “Miss Nancy” and “Aunt Fancy,” who shared digs in Washington for a quarter century with James Buchanan, who later became the only bachelor to serve as U.S. president.

So that’s Roger Stone. Here’s Paul Kiel at TPMuckraker on Stone’s latest venture:

It’s this simple: it’s all about the group’s acronym, which, used in conjunction with Hillary Clinton, is supposed to be irresistibly humorous. That is the beginning and the end of it. The group will not be running ads in any form and will not be making any robocalls. They’ll be making T-shirts. That’s it.

No robocalls from C.U.N.T. There’s a mercy.

Kiel connected Stone to the new group via an article by Matt Labash in the rightwing propaganda sheet, The Weekly Standard, on Jan. 28, 2008:

The only silver lining [to Clinton’s resurgence in the New Hampshire primary] that came my way was an email from the professional dirty trickster and high priest of political hijinks, Roger Stone. It was titled “the good news” and said, simply, “Out of NH C.U.N.T. lives. Gearing up!”

He … was referring to the acronym of his spanking-new anti-Hillary 527 group, Citizens United Not Timid ( … Stone had conceived of the [C.U.N.T.] in December, then had shelved it after Iowa, when like everyone else he assumed Clinton was toast. But with Clinton’s resurrection, he feels he has no choice but to unsheath his sword–not that he ever requires much encouragement.

Now that Clinton’s prospects are fading and Barack Obama appears increasingly likely to cinch the Democratic nomination, we can assume that Stone and the GOP are probably working hard to come up with an organization with a name similar to the National Institute of God, Guns and Eternal Redemption.

It’s these extremely mysogynistic. right-wing 527 groups — which have been gearing up to slime Hillary Dlinton for four long years — which is a major contributing factor in why a growing majority of Democrats, independents and even moderate Republicans have decided to deny these slimeballs what they want the most by voting for Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee.

Absolutely the epitome of NO class.

Any on-the-fence or moderate repub or even dyed-in-the-wool repub with ANY class will reject this. It’s not clever, it’s not funny, it’s not cute.

What it IS, is an INSULT to all women and is not only hurtful, devisive, mean, nasty, spiteful, and obscene but just plain STUPID.

This will hurt rather than help the repub cause.

    May they choke on it.

It’s an “INSULT to all women”, nikolai? Are all women cunts?

Why would it be an “INSULT to all women”? Hillary does not equal all women.

First of all, I’m merely stating my OPINION.

Still, the word ITSELF is an insult in general to women, wouldn’t you agree? If not, why don’t you ask 10 women what they think?

Also, in my OPINION, that it is thrust into the public eye in such a manner, and since Hillary does represent (many) women voters in America I think it more than insults these women as well, and there are a LOT of them.

In my OPINION,it SHOULD insult ANYONE with half a brain. I personally am for Obama, but definitely don’t think Hillary deserves this, even if (apparent)Hillary detractors like yourself do.

You came up with a much better real name for the Anti-Obama 527 than I was able to think up. But we used the same initialy. GMTA and all that.

And yes, c**t is the worst word you could call a woman, pretty much and an insult to all of us everywhere. “that’s a fighting word!”

Did you see at TPM and Raw Story I think that the Reps are focus grouping which words and descriptive phrases they can use against both Clinton and Obama, and which would be too far and cause blowback? And please God, they will go to far I’m sure, especially when they realize fear mongering won’t work. All they’ll have left is the gutter most viscious.

Charlie Crist can get married if he wants to, but he’ll just be one more gay Republican hiding behind his wifes shirts. I’d rather see Charlie Christ up on charges for aiding and abetting in the theft of the 2000 Florida election.

C-U-N-T is a four letter word that means vagina. Since all women have one, why is it a bad thing? I think we should reclaim the word and forget about the negative connotations it once had so stupid people can’t use it against woman once and for all!
