Crist’s Sneaky Motivation for Another Florida Primary

Isn’t it magnanimous of Gov. Charlie Crist to hold another Democratic primary in Florida? I doubt it.

Charlie is widely favored to be John McCain’s running mate. John McCain stands to gain the longer the Democratic side remains unsettled.

Behind the generosity with taxpayer money, which the electorate recently voted to cut drastically, might be a big, honking ulterior motive. Charlie is widely favored to be selected as John McCain’s running mate. John McCain stands to gain the longer the Democratic side remains unsettled. If Florida holds a new election (an assinine idea, in my view), the ball could very well be bandied about right through the convention. Meanwhile, the McCain message can be broadcast loud, clear, and interference-free.

I already voted in the Florida primary. I had a full slate of candidates from which to choose, even though I had not been allowed an opportunity to hear or see them campaign, meet any of them, or get their views on issues related to my state. But that was Howard Dean’s doing, and it’s over.

If Crist succeeds in holding another election, besides being a huge waste of funds at a time when essential services to the most needy and at-risk residents are being cut, it will be a callous political move. I have no doubt our Republican-led legislature will happily comply once Charlie explains it to them, but it’s the wrong thing to do. Period.

  1. FL should not and will not re-vote.

FL delegates will not count in the Dem Primary.

I think this was settled before the voting started so there is no need to change ANY rules now.

  3. We the voters did’nt screw anything up the elites did that and as far as Nader is concerned it can hurt the one that thought that we had nothing but a beauty contest more than some might think!

  5. This Floridian is NOT in favor of another primary simply due to possible cost to us, the taxpayers. Most FL public schools are bracing for drastic cut-backs in the 2008-2009 school year, yet Crist can come up with money for another primary. Ludicrous!!!

  6. At first I thought that it was our Florida democratic leadership which was responsible for moving up the primary date. Now it seems that this was possibly just more Republican shenanigans. Remember, the Florida legislature is ruled by the Republicans and headed by a Republican governor. It seems that the Republicans in yet another brilliant move attached the primary move date to a bill requiring a paper trail for Florida votes. And just like the democratic chumps in Washington, the Florida democrats feel all over themselves to screw their primary voters so that could do some good in getting rid of Florida’s troubled electronic voting system.

The problem isn’t Florida or its democrats it appears, but the ease at which the Florida republicans manipulate the politics in Florida. Remember Terry Schiavo ? Remember that the RNC sent paid republican operatives to disrupt the Florida recount in Miami ? And the local law enforcement let them ?

It isn’t Florida voters that are messed up, it is the sneaky, manipulative republicans that give the state a bad name. Maybe someday Florida voters will figure this out.
