Members of the Westboro Baptist Church, a Christianist hate group whose members are mostly members of the family of Fred Phelps, a disbarred attorney, are at it again, feeding off the misery of innocent, grieving families:

Westboro Baptist Church, a group known for protesting and picketing funerals and memorials of fallen soldiers, is planning to picket at the Sunday afternoon funeral of 18-year-old Auburn freshman Lauren Burk, according to the group’s Web site. Burk was killed Tuesday night. Police are investigating her death as a murder…
The group is also planning to picket the funeral of Eve Carson, UNC student body president who was killed Wednesday morning.
Both funerals are listed on the WBC site’s online picket schedule for Sunday.
Eve Carson, 22, of Athens, Ga., was murdered on March 5:
[She] was found Wednesday morning lying on a street about a mile from campus. She had been shot several times, including once in the right temple. Her sport utility vehicle was discovered Thursday, a few hours after the police positively identified her as the victim.
The shooting appears to be random, [Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian] Curran said.
Police have reported a break in the case:
Detectives are searching for a man photographed using [Carson’s] A.T.M. card.
[Chief Curran] released two surveillance photos of the suspect taken at an automated teller machine, but he declined to say when or where in town the photos were taken. The police also released a photo of a baseball cap the suspect appears to be wearing in both of the surveillance pictures.
Lauren Burk was shot and killed a few miles from the campus of Auburn University in Alabama. Police have arrested a suspect in her killing:
According to police Courtney Lockhart, 23, had been stopped for a driving violation in Phenix City, AL on Friday evening. Police in the Alabama-Georgia border town then contacted Auburn police who identified Lockhart as their prime suspect.
Police focused their investigation on Lockhart earlier in the week after a photograph was obtained that led them to believe he was involved…
Lockhart is now facing capital murder charges, which carries the death penalty. He is also being charged with kidnapping, robbery and attempted rape.
On March 30, activists are planning a protest called the “Million Fag March,” near the Phelps’ “church” (which is said to be a private home) in Topeka.
These dirtbags have been spreading their hateful message for far too long. As a Patriot Guard Rider I’ve personally faced Fred Phelps and his in breed minions several times. I cannot understand how these people can live with themselves. They are a blight on the American landscape and though I strongly support free speech, what these morons spew are fighting words and they need to be stopped. Thanks Da Frog. The Patriot Guard Riders protected a funeral for an Iraq vet here in my town recently and it was a wonderful act to witness. You folks are doing a great thing and I’m only sorry that because of Fred Phelps and his twisted ideas you have to.

Dozens of Patriot Guard Riders stood vigil, each holding a flag, across the street from Temple Kol Emeth, in Marietta, Ga., to block the Burk family and mourners from Westboro Baptist Church protesters whose signs read “God is Your Enemy,” “God Sent the Killer” and “You Eat Your Kids.”
The Westboro protest group was alloted 45 minutes to protest and had approximately four people present.
Timothy Phelps, a member of Westboro Baptist Church, and a relative of its founder, Fred Phelps, said that God sends people to do terrible things because Americans are involved in “rampant sin.”
“Everyone ignores us and things just get worse,” he said.
On Saturday, the group traveled from Athens, Ga., where earlier in the day they protested at services for Eve Carson, the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill student who was also gunned down earlier in the week.
“You won’t obey me so I am going to do things to get your attention,” Phlelps said, referring to God. “Well, maybe if you weren’t involved in rampant sin, God would stop sending these killers.”
What’s really screwed up is that these people have no concept of morals. They think that because they consider themselves to be some sort of twisted crusaders, everything they do is justified.
Eve Carson wasn’t the type of girl that was in it for the popularity. She actually did serious volunteer work and helped out the community. She wasn’t student body president because she wanted people to like her, she was in the position to try to do some good.
I can’t wait until Fred Phelps dies. I’m protesting his funeral, and I’m sure others are, too. If anyone deserves it, they do.
This is the United States and everybody has a right to free speech. Protest of any funeral for any reason is in poor taste. These people have too much time on their hands.

Not content in the quest of destroying the lives of families who have lost their children to AIDS or causing anguish to the parents and families of fallen soldiers, the “God Hates Fags” Church (sic) is coming to town to protest at the Eve Carlson Memorial and they will do it on the UNC campus while the memorial is being held. The question Mo has for the students of UNC and the citizens of Chapel Hill and Orange County is this: are you going to do what veterans have begun doing when Fred and his crew show up by surrounding them in a cloister like fashion with motorcycles and humans shielding the grieving families from these scumbags or are you simply doing to sit around with your thumbs up your anuses and act like the candy ass pussy boys the rest of the Tar Heel State thinks you people are?
