Oops, she did it again. The once and possibly future first daughter still hasn’t come up with anything less lame than, “None of your business” in response to people who bring up Monica Lewinsky.
The depressing part of the whole thing is reliving the disappointment we all felt with Bill Clinton, whom we defended — and still do — but who we know really blew it. So to speak.
It also appears evident that none of the Clintons will ever totally emerge from the shadow the episode cast over all their efforts, even the really good ones, going forward.
It is totally tasteless to be asking Chelsea about her father’s past behavior. The person asking that kind of question, as if Chelsea was responsible for her father’s behavior, lacks moral character. Some things you just don’t do, even if you can. This is why you can’t get good people to run for office, because we “pretend” that all is fair, as long as it is being done to the other candidate (until it happens ot OUR candidate). have some integrity, people.
Chelsea has had two opportunities to show exemplery integrity, and dignity by NOT continuing to ignore the serious lack of judgement that destroyed the Clinton presidency. Her refusal to confront it indicates an arrogance that is disturbing. The Democratic party paid a heavy price for her fathers semantic battles, which showed a true “lack of character”. It effected a nation, and it is absurd for us to “pretend” it didn’t happen, even if the Clintons do, you can bet the Repubs won’t.
This unaccountability behavior puts them in the company of people like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly. At least Spitzer owned up, and didn’t make N.Y. pay to get him sort of admit it.
Any student that has this NEED to confront Chelsea in public about her dads behavior is either or will be a future pervert or a republican.
I’m so glad that Chelsea has the dignity and self-confidence to give this question the answer it deserves.
