The Associated Press reports that former senator and ex-presidential candidate George McGovern is switching from backing Clinton to backing Obama. Here’s the rather weird AP story:
Former Sen. George McGovern, who backed Hillary Rodham Clinton, is urging her to drop out of the Democratic presidential race.
McGovern said Wednesday he has decided to endorse Barack Obama.
After watching the returns from the North Carolina and Indiana primaries Tuesday night, McGovern says it’s virtually impossible for Clinton to win the nomination.
McGovern says he is calling former President Clinton to tell him of the decision and adds that he remains close friends with the Clintons.
Obama’s O.K. so far because I still haven’t donated to his campaign. Once I do, of course, the curse will be upon him since every candidate I give money to loses. Hey, maybe I should help Hillary chip away at that $11 debt she has to herself…
As someone who opposes the Democrats on almost every policy issue, it is gratifying to see luminaries such as McGovern and Carter weigh in on both policy issues and election issues. Was the pre-K class at every D.C. area private school tied up on a visit to a local petting zoo?

I agree with Senator McGovern, but I would add to his comments.
I think that BOTH O’bama and Clinton should drop out of the race and not have a Democrat on the ballot in November.
So I support a Democrat ‘candidate boycott’ in November and allow Democrats to write in their preference.
I also support a very, very long jail term for the superdelegate that has his vote for sale for 20 million dollars.
The upside of throwing the election to McCain as you guys seem to be suggesting is that his presidency would likely drive the last nails into the coffin of the GOP’s half-dead corpse. Downside is, given four more years, the GOP might also complete its mission of turning the United States into a Mexico-style oligarchy.
