Congress, Ohio, Polls
File this one under WTF.
According to a new poll of Georgia voters from InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion Research, nearly 12 percent (11.8 percent) of African-Americans in the state say they will vote for Republican John McCain, not Democrat Barack Obama, in November.
Of all Georgia voters in the survey, 45 percent say they will vote for McCain and 35 percent plan to vote for Obama. Another 8 percent say they will vote for the Libertarian candidate Bob Barr, a former Republican congressman from Georgia.
Georgia went over to the dark side years ago, and there is very little chance Obama, or any Democrat, will win the state anytime soon, but the high support among blacks for McCain, if it is not an anomaly, and if it holds through the election, is surprising.
Possible reasons for it include:
- Successful recruiting of conservative blacks by the GOP
- Disgruntlement among African-American Clinton supporters
- Mass hysteria brought on by high humidity
It will be interesting to track African American support for Obama in other states to see if this result is an outlier or an indicator of a strange new trend.

well, it’s pretty significant that 88% support Obama. black voters are voting on many issues, race is only one. i don’t see the appeal of McCain, but some people do.
Why don’t you state the obvious conclusion, instead of looking for a weaker angle:
your results show that 88% of blacks will vote for Obama??
