Black Reporter Removed by McCain Security in Florida; Whites Allowed to Stay

Tallahassee Democrat reporter Stephen Price

The McCain team swears that race was not an issue when a senior reporter from the Tallahassee Democrat was ejected from a campaign rally in Panama City but they can’t supply an alternate explanation.

[Stephen] Price was among at least three other reporters, and the only black reporter, surrounding McCain’s campaign bus — Gov. Charlie Crist and his fiancee, Carole Rome, were already aboard — when a member of the Arizona senator’s security detail asked the reporter to identify himself. Price had shown his media credentials to enter the area.

Newspaper’s executive editor: “We’re deeply concerned and disturbed that our reporter — of all of those in that area — was asked to move. My understanding is that Stephen was the only reporter approached and asked to leave, and the only reporter in that area who is black.”

Price showed his employee identification as well as his credentials for the Friday event.

“I explained I was with the state press, but the Secret Service man said that didn’t matter and that I would have to go,” Price said.

The big question is, what if anything had Price done to earn his removal?

Tallahassee Democrat Executive Editor Bob Gabordi said the incident was unwarranted.

“We’re deeply concerned and disturbed that our reporter — of all of those in that area — was asked to move,” Gabordi said. “My understanding is that Stephen was the only reporter approached and asked to leave the area, and the only reporter in that area who is black. Another reporter who stood up for Stephen was then asked to leave.”

The McCain team denies Price was removed because he is African-American.

“Access to the senator is tightly controlled,” [McCain advance man Jonathan] Block said. “I would first express regret that your reporter was moved, and I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that race had nothing to do with it.”

And that’s supposed to settle it?

Removign the African American reporter from the McCain event was just another of THOUSANDS OF SLAPS IN THE FACE the GOP, Wealthy White Boy 1%-ERS & the Zionist Bushites
have delviered to America – just since 2004!

McCain, like BUSH & THOSE AROUND HIM, was & is a STONE COLD RACIST.
His mistreatment & DISREGARD of Non-Whites in his home state is LEGEND! Electiung him even as DOG-CATCHER would be a HORRIBLY GROSS DISSERVICE TO THE DOGS!

But too many Americans are STUPID & RACIST while OBAMA is showing HE’S A GUTLESS SELLOUT! So INSANE MCCAIN has a good chance to win!!
    ESPECIALLY with electronic voting!

I hope this stays on the front page and gets some attention on CNN–especially on the McCaferty Files. Even a mention on Olbermann’s “Countdown” would be good. Then the rest of America will see McBush for what he is.

Well, well, well….is this the hero white america brags about? Whoever removed the black reporter from the area, did it on orders from McCain. The buck starts and stops with John McCain on this issue. The undercover racists shows his stripes.

Come on now…do you folks actually believe that McCain had some personal vendeta against this african american reporter? That holds no water. These candidates analyze EVERYTHING they do. Do you not stop to think for one minute that they thought about the implications that would come out of asking the ONE african american reporter to leave. Obviously they knew that something of that nature would bring about a reaction much like this one. I am a white american and I have many african american friends. Yes, I agree that something weird happened that say and that gentelman deserved an apology. HOWEVER, as dumb as you think McCain is, he has people who tell him what to say and do. This is not something that any inteligent candidate would have done. I’m not trying to stand up for McCain in any way. I’m a swing voter at this point. But I concede that he’s campiagn directors are not as naive to believe that something like this would have gone unnoticed. Let me know your thoughts. God Bless America.

I am not surprised by anything that McCain and his people have done or will do.
I believe that McCain is racist to his core and I believe that his wife is too. I believe that McCain would rather have dinner with his Vietnamese captors than any Black American.
SO PEOPLE DO NOT BE ALARMED BY THIS MAN’S ACTIONS.

Boy I can’t wait to see them try to sqirm their way out of this one. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doesn’t surprise me though.

Arizona Governor Rescinded Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In 1987, One of newly elected Governor Evan Mecham’s first acts in office was to rescind Arizona’s recognition of the Martin Luther King Holiday. “Mecham strikes many voters as a simpleminded ideologue who is giving a bad name to the nation’s second-fastest-growing state. After rescinding the Jan. 19 holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr., Mecham defended the use of the term “pickaninnies” for blacks.” Time 11/9/87]

McCain Said He Thought Governor Was Correct in His Decision According to the Huffington Post, “In 1983, McCain voted against passing a bill to designate the third Monday of every January as a federal holiday in honor of King. Four years later, then-Arizona Governor Evan Mecham rescinded Martin Luther King Day as a state holiday, saying it had been established through an illegal executive order by his Democratic predecessor. McCain said he thought Mecham was correct in his decision.” [Sam Stein, Huffington Post, 4/1/08]

McCain Consistently Voted Against The Civil Rights Act Of 1990. In 1990, McCain voted against a bill designed to address employer discrimination at least 4 times. According to the Washington Post, the “Civil Rights Act of 1990 is designed to overturn several recent Supreme Court rulings that made it much more difficult for individual employees to prove discrimination. The legislation, being fought by business, also would impose new penalties on employers convicted of job discrimination.” [S 2104, Vote #304, 10/24/90; Vote #276, Vote #275, 10/16/90; Vote #161, 7/18/90; Washington Post, 7/9/90

McCain Defended Controversial Spokesman Richard Quinn, McCain’s who called the MLK Holiday “Vitriolic and Profane.” Richard Quinn, was a South Carolina “strategist” for McCain in the 2000 campaign. In a Partisan View column, Richard Quinn wrote, “King Day should have been rejected because its purpose is vitriolic and profane. By celebrating King as the incarnation of all they admire, they [black leaders] have chosen to glorify the histrionic rather than the heroic and by inference they spurned the brightest and the best among their own race. Ignoring the real heroes in our nation’s life, the blacks have chosen a man who represents not their emancipation, not their sacrifices and bravery in service to their country; rather, they have chosen a man whose role in history was to lead his people into a perpetual dependence on the welfare state, a terrible bondage of body and soul.”

Quinn has also advocated electing David Duke, and sold T-Shirts through his magazine celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. [Partisan View, Southern Partisan, Fall, 1983; Partisan View, Southern Partisan, Winter, 1989, PFAW Release, 2/17/00] [Spartanburg Herald-Journal, 12/23/05; Vanity Fair, 11/04]

McCain Defended Quinn as ‘Respected’ and a ‘Fine Man.” Despite Mr. Quinn’s writings and history of racial insensitivity, McCain defended him as a ‘respected’ and ‘fine man’ and refused to fire him. [Associated Press, 2/18/00; New York Times, 2/8/00]

The fact that the reporter was black had nothing to do with it,and even if it was the reason, Ive seen a lot of black people who dont like white folks, and spending sometime in so Pheonix az, Ive been ask to leave some black neiborhoods, and “ask” was putin it lightly. Why is it ok for blacks to bo bigots and a “sin” or “crime” for it bo be the other way around?

This is so typical of today’s News Reporting… Why in the Hell didn’t someone nail the McCain security people down for an explanation.

I have to agree that this sounds bad for the McCain security people, but I also think that NOT MUCH EFFORT was made to find the TRUTH OF THE MATTER! The press tells us what THEY want us to hear and believe, RATHER than just reporting the news.

“FOUL BALL!”, Trish… IN-VES-TI-GATE BEFORE REPORTING! What? Were you in too big a hurry to file your story, leaving the “possible” truth of the mater to die a quick death?

This is nothing more than NOBAMA lemmings trying to deflect the fact that NOBAMA has tried to use (half of) his race to gain votes, got called on it, and now his lemmings are looking for A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G to make McCain look racist.

    Will this BULLS*** EVER STOP???!!!

NOBAMA is a bad choice because his policies (which are the same old socialist policies that have been tried before) SUCK! Has nothing to do with the color of his skin. He’s half white – is McCain only being racist to half of NOBAMA? WTF!

What is wrong with the people of McCain’s security force? If the reporter had the correct i.d. why would he be asked to leave? The paper that he worked for was named Democrat, yes? But even if it were because of either reasons why would they remove him and not the others? It isn’t the thing that took place it is the appearance of the thing that took place (it appeared racist even if it wasn’t). We already know how McCain is and no matter what he or his people say that will not change the knowledge of that fact. I am sure that they will continue to say they aren’t racist but that just doesn’t fly with all that his campaign has put out about Obama. So think what you want we see what is going on and the people of this country prayfully will too. Racism is a cancer that has to be removed and until it is we as a nation are going to continue to debate this issue and people will continue to deny it exist and we will continue to tell them it does (because it continues falling on deaf ears).

    Francia,

What exactly has McCain done that could be conceived as racist????

Get over your victim mentality. Racism is not the cancer you think it is. If it was so prevalent, Ophra Winfrey would not be as wealthy and liked as she is. Colin Powell would not have served Bush, Condoleeza Rice wouldn’t be the Secretary of State. Puuleez wake up and realize it’s not racism that is making your life unhappy – it’s you.

It’s you rightwingers who should get over their victim mentality, Rhonda.

“Oooh, the liberal media is mean to us just because we’re congenital liars and our ideas are stupid…”

“Waaaahh, Hollywood hates us ’cause we’re so ugly…”

“Booo-hooo, mean old ‘Democrat Party’ won’t let us spill oil all over the beach.”

    Buncha crybabies.

All the reporters in the section were from Florida, not national media, but this reporter, Stephen Price, was thrown out by McCain security, assisted by a big bubba cop who kept his hand on his gun the whole time, because they said he was in the section for national reporters. That was a lie. He wasn’t.

And now even McCain’s staff has apologized to Price.
