This new ad from the No on 8 side plays off the fact that Mormons have donated $11 million, or about 40 percent, of the funding for Proposition 8, which is appropriately being referred to as “Prop Hate.” If the Mormons get their way and the prop passes, the California Constitution will be amended to prevent gay marriage, which has been legal since June.
The ad’s tagline is exactly right: “Say no to a church taking over your government.”

When will humans learn religion always fucks everything up . . .
This ad is more hateful and bigoted than anything put out by the Yes on 8 camp, and it represents a new low for this campaign. Orthodox Jews have been big supporters of Prop. 8 too — would you feel the same way if this ad featured a stereotypically hawk-nosed, black-robed Rabbi storming in and doing the same thing? Or, would that come off as hateful and bigoted?
Blue, if the Orthodox had given over $11 million to “Prop Hate,” there would be ads ridiculing them, too. And rightly so. By law, the Mormons who donated had to make their names public, so they are taking pride in their bigotry. We would expect Orthodox Jews and Catholics to do the same.
The ad is inflammtory and… very effective. Watch it with sound off. Visually, you will instantly recognize the Mormon “uniform” . I don’t think this ad got any network or local airtime. The acting is very poor… but editing makes the case.

Traditional marriage is valued by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, this ad lies about the nature of the LDS Church. To learn more about the LDS church and its fundamental beliefs, please visit http://mormon.org
Are you kidding me!! It’s about time someone stood up and spoke out. Most of middle class America is sick and tired of having our laws “revamped” to accomodate special interests. The church didn’t finance Prop Ate, it’s people did. California’s problem is it’s bleeding heart and accept everyone and everything attitude. No wonder they can’t balance a budget.Maybe we should blame the Mormons……for helping to settle California.
Amen to that, Porter! I totally agree. The liberals can all chant “Obama” and “the people have spoken,” but when people speak and vote the way they don’t like, that’s just not right, huh? Hypocrits!!!!
I find this clip highly offensive. No part of it rings true at all. I know no missionarys that go around being so rude and forceful. The accusations made in this video are discriminatory towards the Mormons, and yet you complain that the Mormons are the one that are discriminating against you and your cause yet you don’t see any of them flipping you off or cussing you out. You are being very judgmental and I never thought that an organization could stoop so low as lie about their opponents.
Mormongirl - If you “never thought an organization could stoop so low as to lie about their opponents,” you were not here in California to witness the barrage of lies in the ads by your side. The ad in the video above uses humor — something conservatives are famously oblivious to. It is an allegory that precisely depicts what happened in California: Mormons from out of state came here and ripped our right to marry to shreds.
If Mormons thought there would not be consequences for that, they were naive.
I still thought we lived in America a free land and we can vote the way we feel we want to vote and not have our votes dictated to us. I am tired of people not liking the way you vote and then they ar called bigets . Isn’t this a free land???? I am sure there were several groups that put money into the prop 8 campain for both sides. I don’t feel that it is fair you should shame someone into voting for either side of prop 8.
Yes, Tina, you are free to be a bigot.
