Just embarrassing
George W. Bush is delusional. That’s the only explanation, short of alternate universes, for his comments on what his legacy will be in an interview conducted by his sister, Dorothy Koch.
Let’s start with No Child Left Behind.
“I think the No Child Left Behind Act is one of the significant achievements of my administration because we said loud and clear to educators, parents and children that we expect the best for every child, that we believe every child can learn, and that in return for Federal money we expect there to be an accountability system in place to determine whether every child is learning to read, write, and add and subtract,” he said.
Bush said because of his administration’s No Child Left Behind policy, the “achievement gap” between white children and African-American and Latinos is “narrowing.”
“The promise of No Child Left Behind has been fulfilled,” Bush said.
Among its “17 Reasons NCLB Must Go,” NoChildLeft.com lists disappointing educational results, schools labeled as failures despite being underfunded or serving challenged students such as those for whom English is a second language, narrowing of curriculums to accommodate “teaching to the test,” forcing out underachieving students in order to raise school-wide test scores, loss of current and future teachers, and stagnation within the educational system.
So much for No Child Left Behind. What else does Bush want us to remember?
“I surrounded myself with good people,” Bush said. “I carefully considered the advice of smart, capable people and made tough decisions.”
One word: Heckuva Job Brownie.
Wait, two words: Donald Rumsfeld.
Bush said he wants to be known as a president “that focused on individuals rather than process; that rallied people to serve their neighbor; that led an effort to help relieve HIV/AIDS and malaria on places like the continent of Africa; that helped elderly people get prescription drugs and Medicare as a part of the basic package; that came to Washington, D.C., with a set of political statements and worked as hard as I possibly could to do what I told the American people I would do.”
Let’s take these one at a time. Bush rallied people to serve their neighbors by abandoning their neighbors so they had no choice.
HIV/AIDS relief in Africa? BlackAgendaReport.com doesn’t think so.
The Bush administration undermines its vaunted AIDS efforts in Africa by tying aid dollars to contracts for American firms, and barring funds to groups that deal with sex workers – a primary vector of the disease. Such political-religious restrictions have led to the growth of epidemics centered among sex workers, and a critical shortage of condoms in Uganda – a country that was once touted as an AIDS success story but is now on a backward slide.
Prescription drug coverage? Check with the Heritage Foundation.
According to the latest official projections, the net, ten-year cost of the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) drug entitlement is $720 billion.
When Congress passed the Medicare Modernization Act in 2003, CBO and Administration officials said that the initial ten-year cost (over the period from 2004 to 2013) was going to be roughly $400 billion…
Estimates of the 10-year cost of the Medicare drug benefit will only balloon as the baby boom generation starts to retire and join the Medicare rolls. If Congress repealed the entitlement and instead adopted targeted and expanded MDDC program, the new policy could save taxpayers billions while assisting those seniors who actually need help.
Want more from the guy who implemented “Faith-Based Initiatives” as way of providing taxpayer dollars to religious groups?
“I’ve been in the Bible every day since I’ve been the president…I would advise politicians, however, to be careful about faith in the public arena,” he said.
“In other words, politicians should not be judgmental people based upon their faith. They should recognize — as least I have recognized I am a lowly sinner seeking redemption, and therefore have been very careful about saying [accept] my faith or you’re bad. In other words, if you don’t accept what I believe, you’re a bad person. And the greatness of America — it really is — is that you can worship or not worship and be equally American. And it doesn’t matter how you choose to worship; you’re equally American. And it’s very important for any President to jealously protect, guard, and strengthen that freedom.”
But the most delusional statement of all has to be Bush’s view of his nation-building invasion and occupation of Iraq.
“I’d like to be a president [known] as somebody who liberated 50 million people and helped achieve peace.”
I’m sure you would like to be that president, Mr. Bush. We would like for you to be too. Unfortunately, you are the biggest screw-up and failure ever to hold the office. That, W, is your true and abiding legacy.

Well, it is like a Greek tragedy, isn’t it. The pathos is palpable. Unable, completely, ever, of assuming any responsibility for his own actions he dreams a reality the rest of us never lived. He drifts through his last days with an overweaning nostalgic sentimentality constructed to support his own idea of who he is.
Here’s my take on this. It’s funny that you and I should tackle the same two and a half week-old news item on the same day.
Bush is not a clown, he is a criminal, and so is dick Cheney.
They both need to be arrested immediately on charges of treason, malfeasance and other high crimes and misdemeanors. We can’t wait until January 20.
bush has never had to deal with reality so why should he start now? He has the wealth and privilege which allows him to look from on high down at the rest of us. bush has NEVER had to worry about making a car or mortgage payment, how to afford medical bills (or to have to skip needed medical care) and in fact has literally been handed his fortune by creating special taxation for the the City of Arlington TX so as to sell his Rangers Basball team via his daddy and the “good old boy” network. BTW, I would wager that bush has never gone hungry either. ‘Nuff said.
I remember early on in his administration when he was asked about his legacy he shrugged and replied, “We’ll all be dead.” Considering the job he has done for the last eight years I’m surprised we’re not.
Hey, I know a Jerry Bischoff! Where are you from Jerry?
Geaorge Bush will never be remembered to history as agreat leader or a man of intelligence thats for sure.
A picture, they say, is worth 1000 words.
Here’s 10,000.
I’ve always said Bush was delusional –psychotic as well as psychopathic. His educational efforts in Houston were outright FRAUDS and, as a result, Texas TRAILS the nation in high school graduates. Even Mississippi beats out Texas. The CORPORATE PRISON system in Texas is a CRIMINAL FRAUD that warrants a federal investigation. His administration makes Warren Harding look like a boyscout. Bush and his gang of crooks and liars ran the nation into the ground while committing CAPITAL CRIMES in Iraq.
Bush should stand trial for his life. He is a thief on behalf of his corporate sponsors who should likewise be charged.
Bush committed MASS MURDER. Let’s have a MASS TRIAL of the lot of these lying bastards.
how come the whole country can get screwed and this A-hole can talk about it like he’s a saint his bank account should be striped tried for treason F-U nancy pelosy
On January 20 Mr. Obama will take this oath of office: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
He will say this in the presence of Mr. Bush, who twice swore this oath before his last two terms in office. After eight years, failing miserably to fulfill this oath, what possible meaning can it yet have for him?
What precedents have this man AND this Congress set for future occupants of this office! Mr. Obama, or one of his successors, could blithely issue signing statements that laws are not laws, that he is not bound by the law, that he can cancel treaties, that he can torture anyone he pleases, that he can bankrupt our nation funding monstrous wars, knowing that no one in the Congress will dare to impeach him for his high crimes and misdemeanors.
Earlier, Mr. Conyers, Judiciary Chair, saw impeachment as vengeance, risky for campaigning Democrats. But Democrats won big. Impeachment only risks the appearance of partisanship. Is the Congress blinded to its duty by some bipartisan euphoria? This is not vengeance. This is Constitutional duty.
But Mr. Bush now prepares to canter off insouciantly into his Texas sunset, basking in his myth as savior of democracy and well-paid herald of the Rapture, leaving chaos and Armageddon in his wake.
Really?
I never had the imprssion the ‘w’ is delusional. Narcissistic, sadistic, criminal-yep. But not delusonal, he knows that putting lit firecrackers into the cloaca of frogs will explode them and give him joy and fun. He knows the words that he has to say to get approval he wants and those words will be edited to be correct where needed and his actions can be far different than any words seem to promise. Words are not important it is the impression that carries the day.
His private joy is rooted in sadistic pleasure. His statement about meetings with families of fallen troops tells all, ‘w’ stated he ‘learns’ so much from them. Their loss and all the emotional turmoil is OK becasue itis transformednto a ‘learning’ experience. He is not ‘learning’, he is joyful at the expence of others.
Americans should run swiftly from another highly privileged person who throw their hat into the presedential ring. These people can not concieve the reality of what the rest of us have to endure, and are seriously out of touch with the day to day effort needed in order for us to survive. Their world is one built on power, influence and money, remove one leg of this three-legged stool and their entire existence collapses. I expect George W. Bush will now drink himself into oblivion knowing what a grade A failure he has emphatically shown himself to be.
Don’t be too hard on Dubya. He’s the first, and hopefully only delusionally disfunctional President we’ve ever had, aside from Jerry Ford who was just fun to watch. The true Evil here is Dick Cheney, who manipulated this poor idiotic Texan into being the Worst President Ever Imagined. Shame on him.
Please God don’t let another born again christian get elected. Those people are nuts and need to get their head out of that stupid book of Revelations and spend more time focusing on the sermon of the mount. That is where you will find God’s true words right from Jesus’ mouth. Why would anyone put their trust in a man who never even met the Christ in person? Why follow a murderer like Paul or the unknown author of Revelations? Those ae the false prophesies Jesus warned about that would lead us down this road. God save us from the endtimers!
When the news breaks, Pottersville pulverizes it. Looking at these news items, you’d swear they were from The Onion but, sadly, they’re not.
