Kid Puts Condi on the Defensive About Bush Administration Torture

It’s interesting to watch someone get to Condi. George Stephanopoulos said this is, “the first time anyone has gotten Rice on the record about the interrogation tactics since the Obama administration released the memos.”

Condi comes very close to losing it with this earnest, sincere student who should be outgunned by the former secretary of state. But as the room grows quiet, Condi sticks to her “if the president authorized it, it’s not torture” line and it becomes obvious that being right is more powerful for the student than knowing you’re wrong and defending yourself anyway is for Rice.

One thing seems clear from watching this clip. Condoleezza Rice and the rest of the Bush administration will never outlive what they did. Their actions and motivations will be forever questioned by anyone with a memory.

That kid owned Condi. She actually appears frightened. Maybe that’s why she tells the kid in the end to not think too far out into the future.

I hope this issue dogs Condi and her handlers for the rest of their days or until justice is served.

Condi Rice is scheduled to be guest of honour and open the new School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary on May 13. Please see url and sign petition asking U of C to rescind the invitation.

On May 29-31 George Bush, Bill Clinton, John Bolton, Michael Chertoff and Australian PM John Howard will be speaking in Toronto. Please keep your war criminals there at home with you.
