Hayworth ended up looking like the bigoted fool that he is, and Rachel ended up looking like the only adult in the interview, as usual.

Hayworth has the eyes of a snake. That smirk on his face never wavered and it gave him the demeanor of a sociopath. He creeped me out.

I live in AZ and Hayworth used to be a sports announcer on one of our local Phoenix TV stations, and he wasn’t very good at it or appealing to watch or listen to, nor is he now. Hayworth is a ruthless hardcore right-winger, and he really is not too bright. I don’t think he’ll beat McCain, but if he does I guess AZ will get what it deserves. BTW, Hayworth was also caught paying his wife $95,000 a year for part time secretarial work out of campaign funds.

And I’m sorry to admit that he is one of ours. JD was born and raised in High Point, N.C. I didn’t know he was a sportscaster first — just like Sister Sarah!

Rachel wiped the floor with Hayworth? I wished she had but he came off quite well. She threw everything at him and he deflected all of it. If anything she came off as borderline shrill compared to his rather calm demeanor.

She lost on facts in her attempt to smear him and tie him to Abramoff.

Even on the gay issue, which should have been a slam dunk, Maddow was the one who wasn’t wearing her big girl panties. She swung and missed entirely by focusing her attack on “intimacy” instead of the “horse.”

And before you start your name calling, two things (1) I am a fan and semi-regular viewer of Maddow (2) I am a liberal but I try not to be stupid about it.

As something of an Abramoff scandal nerd, I knew Hayworth was lying, and making a video record of his lies — as did Rachel. For one thing, he lost his House seat in ’06 because he was the biggest recipient of Abramoff money in the House. Coming back four years later and denying the same fact that cost him an election was ballsy but it would likely end this and any other attempt he might make to reenter politics.

Also, isn’t it expecting more of Maddow than any other news host to suggest that she have the actual evidence — the text of the Mass. marriage decision, for example — on the set, ready to scour with him line by line? If this had been Meet the Press, CNN or Fox, they would have avoided asking Hayworth about Abramoff entirely and just focused on the man-on-horse controversy.

Obviously the attack on “intimacy” was a question about his credibility. He was lying about that — it’s not in the decision. To go after the horse part would have been going after what is already obvious: JD is crazy homophobic, which means he’s probably trolling gay dungeon websites in his spare time.

All that said, Brad, to quote Mr. Hayworth, I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
