For one thing, he lost his House seat in '06 because he was the biggest recipient of Abramoff money in the House. Coming back four years later and denying the same fact that cost him an election was ballsy but it would likely end this and any other attempt he might make to reenter politics. Also, isn't it expecting more of Maddow than any other news host to suggest that she have the actual evidence -- the text of the Mass. marriage decision, for example -- on the set, ready to scour with him line by line? If this had been Meet the Press, CNN or Fox, they would have avoided asking Hayworth about Abramoff entirely and just focused on the man-on-horse controversy. Obviously the attack on "intimacy" was a question about his credibility. He was lying about that -- it's not in the decision. To go after the horse part would have been going after what is already obvious: JD is crazy homophobic, which means he's probably trolling gay dungeon websites in his spare time. Hayworth is a ruthless hardcore right-winger, and he really is not too bright. I don't think he'll beat McCain, but if he does I guess AZ will get what it deserves. BTW, Hayworth was also caught paying his wife $95,000 a year for part time secretarial work out of campaign funds.
