Why Is Glenn Beck, Who Did Drugs Instead of Serving in the Military, Smearing Purple Hearts to Promote His Million Moron March?

photo-puprple-hepratVia Roger Ebert, Wednesday, amid the other goobledy-gook he spews, GOP-Fox News’ Glenn Beck uttered this barely comprehensible string of phrases:

We are from Washington, D.C., where this Saturday, we will be gathered here at the feet of the Lincoln Memorial and we are going to be — as you see in the corner — oops, in this corner. Can you put it back up? This corner is the merit badge. I have been wearing it. I’m all screwed up because I can’t — television is backwards.

The merit badge — there it is in the bottom of your screen. It is George Washington’s original Purple Heart, but it was just given for merit, for doing something of honor. We didn’t even know about it until 1933 when FDR found three. There were only three of them in existence.

Okay, so that made no sense, but it certainly sounded like he planned to wear George Washington’s Purple Heart to his konklave at the “feet of” the Lincoln Memorial tomorrow, which Andy Borowitz has dubbed the “Million Moron March.”

Actually, Beck has invented a new “badge of merit” (not, mind you, a merit badge) to replace the Purple Heart which he dislikes, he says, because it rewards people for being victims, which is Beck’s Orwellian newspeak for being wounded in the line of duty.

Ryan Witt at Examiner.com explains:

Glenn Beck evidently believes the Purple Heart is some progressive invention which distorted a previous award called the “Badge of Merit.” On his radio show today, Beck seemed to lessen the significance of a Purple Heart, implying that his own “Badge of Merit” will mean so much more because it has to do with “integrity and honor.” Beck plans to give out his own Badges of Merit at a rally he is holding at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of MLK’s famous “I Have a Dream Speech.” In handing out military honors, Beck will be playing a role traditionally filled by military officers or the President himself.

In fact, the Badge of Merit was an an award given out by George Washington during the Revolutionary War. However, it never truly gained acceptance in the military. Washington awarded three soldiers the Badge of Merit, but no other soldier was ever given the award. So, in between the Badge of Merit and its replacement, the Purple Heart, the United States military fought in the War of 1812, the Spanish-American War, and World War I without a single soldier being given the Badge of Merit. Beck acts as though progressives perversely changed some commonly accepted military award. In fact, while technically still available, the reality is that the Badge of Merit had become nothing more than a historical relic.

However, what is perhaps most insulting is the idea that a Beck’s Badge of Merit will somehow mean more than a “progressive” Purple Heart because it rewards “honor and integrity.” For many, the mere fact that someone is willing to sacrifice their life and limb for country, and is in fact wounded, symbolizes their “honor and integrity.”

Like all of us who didn’t serve in the military, Glenn Beck should show a little respect for the service, especially those who have been wounded in the line of duty. He seems to think he’s attacking liberals in general and FDR specifically when he derides the Purple Heart by denigrating it as a reward for being a victim. That is really despicable — especially so in Beck’s case, because, instead of serving his country, Beck spent his teen and young-adult years laid up smoking pot and doing coke.

It’s desecration enough that he’s holding this pro-white people rally at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, but awarding people these anti-Purple Heart merit badges is a desecration to the service of military personnel who have been wounded in the line of duty.

Imagine if a liberal commentator smeared the meaning of the Purple Heart — the media would be all over it, and the right wing would be calling for the commentator’s treasonous head.

But when Beck does it, no one notices. Once again: I.O.I.Y.A.R.

It seems that the brains of many folks is turning to mush by listening to such idiots as Glenn Beck and Fat Rush. The people who listen to such people have a chip on their shoulder, nine times out of ten, they are bigoted, and facts do not matter to them. If this hate speech keeps up…they will be taking potshots at liberals and anyone who doesn’t agree with them. These folks want someone to hate. Period. They could ruin America. Only calmer minds and honest people can stop this latest plaque of tea baggers without brains. Maggie

African Americans should show up early at the Lincoln Memorial with a lot of bullhorns.

Also, bring Confederate flags for a good burning, or paint a big swastika on them.

I’m for letting these imbeciles stew in their in their own juices. Let those who exist in the real world of science and logic observe the antics of an hysterically bigoted fragment of our community, and let anyone who mouth the impressively stupid words “…that we are now in a post-racial world…” bite their tongue off when that term is used in the context of the United States of Amerikkka.

What I most dislike about Glenda’s “Badge of Merit” is that it is being used as a political football. Our military personnel should not be used as ANY type of political tool. If Glenda had any real respect for our military, he wouldn’t take it upon himself to bestow, without authority, any kind of military-related medal on anyone. IMHO, this is one other example of him acting like a real j@ckazz.

My brother-in-law was killed in Vietnam in 1966 and received a Purple Heart. What a disgrace it is to him and his family to have Glen Beck minimize his sacrifice to his country by handing out phony merit badges for so called “honor and integrity”. I wonder how this rally will be photo-shopped in the media. Can anyone tell me how I can get in touch with Beck to tell him my disgust?

One gets the Purple Heart for “being a victim”?! Beck seems to have forgotten (or perhaps he never bothered to consider) that getting wounded in a war zone means you were out there taking risks with life and limb. Anyone who does that and gets hurt in the process deserves honor, in my humble opinion. But what do I know – I’m only the sister and niece of combat veterans.

“African Americans should show up early at the Lincoln Memorial with a lot of bullhorns.” There are some who were there. As supporters. -_- I had one who is a facebook game friend comment on a post of mine tell me that ‘in context, Beck is not divisive’ etc. And she posted today about going to his gathering.

I just shake my head–it’s like GOProud, I don’t see the logic in supporting people who are against you

Glenn Beck shows an unforgivable lack of respect for your brother-in-law, his family, and all those who “gave the full measure of devotion,”, or were “only” maimed in the service of their country. But disgrace? No; that is Beck’s alone. It can’t touch your family. Nor can anything he can say change the fact that he’s not fit to sweep your sidewalk.

People need to wake up the fact that Glenn Beck is simply another opinion pushing charlatan who is a product of mormon cult theology that he mixes with parts of Catholicism and his personal core as a dry alcoholic. And for the record, he is a Mormon and not a Christian. The two are not the same as one is a cult and the other is a religion. This makes Glenn Beck one very twisted screwed up moron who sold his soul to the lowest common denominator of personal stupidity. And for the record…the religion of Islam has far more in common with Christianity than the mormon cult.

Glenn Beck can be summarized simply as a dry mormon alcoholic who never got the counseling required for alcoholics. Those are his only qualifications for anything in life as he never went to college and definitely knows nothing about American History or the US Constitution. Because he does not possess a single ounce of journalistic integrity, this makes him the perfect abortion poster child for Fox Network. Considering the fact that Beck’s personal views are extreme Marxist Libertarian, his form of patriotism is false and he is a person who has no real substance or depth. He is definitely not a true conservative.

As with Joseph Smith or that 5th grade graduate who started the Jehovah’s Witness Cult, this over-paid idiot (Glenn Beck) got in bed with Satan a very long time ago. It’s really all about the money as hate, lies, promotion of ignorance and fear mongering are the only marketable skills that Glenn Beck has on his side and he has a growing flock of very impressionable idiots who do not understand the difference between a cult and a religion or truth & facts versus lies.

Glenn Beck consistently demonstrates all the unstable behaviors of a dry alcoholic which include grandiosity, judgmentalism, intolerance, impulsivity, ADD, indecisiveness and blindness to truth. In short, Beck, Limbaugh, O Reilly, Hannity, Palin, O Donnell, Coulter and others like them frequently pervert truth, history, facts, religion and the US Constitution when they open their big mouths. Beck is simply part of a national league of pseudo-conservative idiots who make big money by selling lies and half truths to impressionable fools who occupy the lowest levels of society. Basically…tea baggers and registered republicans who are condemned to repeat the mistakes of history.

Glenn Beck, like Rush Limbaugh, is a shameless hypocrite who worships ideological purity. Both are psychopaths who have turned hate into a multimillion dollar industry for them. They got their wish on Nov. 2, but they may have killed America too. Beck and Limbaugh both have hearts of stone.
