Big Media Can’t Be Bothered to Keep Up with the Romney Campaign’s Rovian ‘Blizzard of Lies’ Strategy

Reality-based writers on the Web step up as they did in the Bush era

If Mitt Romney wins the presidency in November it will be because he has adopted the George W. Bush/Karl Rove “reality creation” strategy, wherein the candidate/elected official and his or her surrogates tell so many lies, day in and day out, that the overpaid but beleaguered national political media can’t be bothered to keep up.

Just as there was in the Bush years, a cottage industry is coalescing on the Interwebs around the mission of tracking the Romney team’s “blizzard of lies” strategy with fact checking and lie listings. Media Matters does a good job, of course, and there’s and right-leaning Politifact, but check out Romney the Liar, at Blogspot, for starters. Here are a few other sources:

Steve Benen, formerly at the Washington Note, now at Maddow Blog, is doing real heavy lifting in tracking Romney’s lies. He’s up to Volume XX (for recently educated folks, please know that “XX” is the Roman numeral for “20.”) Here are links to previous editions: Vol. IIIIIIIVVVIVIIVIIIIXXXIXII,XIIIXIVXVXVI, XVIIXVIII, XIX

Andrew Sullivan at the Dish/Daily Beast focuses on Mitt’s Big Lies: 1. 1. “No Military Options On The Table With Iran” ; 2. “Romney Backed The Auto Bailout”; and 3. Obama Has No Jobs Plan. (I would add Romney’s big lie that Obama went on an apology tour to this list.)

You’ll find a frequently updated list, “All of Romney’s Lies in One Place!” here at DailyKos.

There was even an article in the mainstream “U.S. News and World Report” in January titled,”Mitt Romney’s Lies.”

And in case you missed it, be sure to check out Xpostfactoid’s list of Romney’s Rules for lying.

I for one would love to have the version of Obama that Republicans keep telling me he is.

Uh Laurie… Obama has done a stellar job fulfilling his promises considering he has been blocked at every step by the GOP. He ended the Iraq War, is ending the Afghanistan War, saved the auto industry, reformed healthcare, had OBL killed, ended DADT, abandoned the unconstitutional DOMA, kept us out of a depression… in other words, pull up your big girl pants and quit whining. We have a choice between an upstanding individual who has done, or tried to do, exactly what he said he would do as president, and a pathological liar who wants to return to the Bush policies that nearly destroyed the world economy.

SmittyPA, I hope the PA means Pennsylvania, and I hope you are registered to vote. Thank you for having a mind and not believing the big lies out there! :) Your comment above really brought me a little bit of hope for this country yet.

It is rare to read such a clear and concise defense of any current politician. I’m not a huge Obama fan, actually I’m not a democrat, but I respect his intelligence, honesty and the fact that he has continuously tried to work across the aisle, even in spite of outwardly stated obstructionism by the Rapeublicans.

I know Obama’s not perfect. I know he’s made some mistakes, but compared with Bush, the potential damage we averted by not voting in McCain/Palin, and the horrible unraveling that would happen under Romney/Ryan, I think Obama is an awesome choice, and I plan on voting for him.

I am saddened that our country has so much debt, and I’m even more saddened that the only conversation about the debt from the right is that Obama created it. Bush and his policies alone are attributed to over 6.6 Trillion of it, but you won’t hear that on the news. :(
