Joy Behar introduced her new show on Current TV last night with a round-table discussion of the decision last week by Republicans who control Michigan’s legislature to censor two state representatives who used the word “vagina” during debate over anti-abortion legislation:
Michigan state Rep. Lisa Brown (D-West Bloomfield) was silenced on the floor of the Michigan House of Representatives by a Republican colleague last Wednesday after using the word “vagina” in a speech denouncing proposed anti-abortion legislation, yet another flare-up in the GOP war on women.
Current TV host Joy Behar checks in with Rep. Brown, Erica Jong, author of “Sugar in My Bowl: Real Women Write About Real Sex,” and Michelle Goldberg, senior contributing writer for The Daily Beast/Newsweek and author of “The Means of Reproduction: Sex, Power and the Future of the World,” to hear their reaction to the incident and the ongoing debate over women’s rights.
“The Republicans have no economic plan, so they’re going to get people all excited about the word ‘vagina,’” observes Jong.
Behar’s show does not officially launch until the fall, which is too bad since it immediately became the most engaging and entertaining show in the network’s primetime lineup.
