Amount the projected 10-year federal deficit would be decreased by imposing a $20 per ton carbon tax — from $2.3 trillion to $1.1 trillion — according to a new report from the Congressional Research Service which finds that “Taxing carbon emissions could raise enough money to eventually cut the deficit in half,” according to The Hill.
