When Rep. David Dreier was chair of the House Rules Committee, he used the “Slaughter Rule” 35 times in just one session. The rule, which has existed since 1933, was used by GOP speakers Gingrich and Hastert 202 times. You won’t learn any of that by reading the interview with Dreier about the rule published by the Christian News Service this week. In fact, CNSNews published Dreier’s disingenuous take on the rule without bothering to fact check or present any sort of perspective from the pro-reform side. That’s not journalism, it’s stenography — and, worse, propaganda.

Were the constant interruptions a propaganda trick meant to garble the president’s message? Or was Baier unconsciously revealing his lack of respect for a black man in the office of the presidency? We report. You decide.

Republicans are flailing away about procedural maneuvers involved in passing health care reform because polling on reform goes down when the focus is on process not the benefits reform will provide. The GOP’s current disinformation campaign focuses on the process of “deeming,” which they have labeled the “Slaughter Rule” after House Rules Chair Louise Slaughter. In fact, the GOP used this same procedure 90 times under Speaker Gingrich and 112 times under Speaker Hastert.

But why rehearse? All it takes is a dab of Mentholatum in the eye. More from Howard Kurtz @ WaPo.

Virginia’s Anti-Gay Attorney General Comes out – As a Birther
Jon Ponder | Mar. 16, 2010

During his campaign for attorney general of Virginia, Ken Cuccinelli made his view on gay rights clear: They are “intrinsically wrong,” he said, because “they don’t comport with natural law” and gay sex “is not healthy to an individual and in aggregate is not healthy to society.” As if that weren’t enough, he was recently caught on tape speculating about whether Pres. Obama was born in Kenya, which says, “doesn’t seem beyond the realm of possibility.” Got that? The top law official of the commonwealth of Virginia is a birther.

GOP CA Gov Hopeful Meg Whitman Holds Press Event, Refuses to Answer Questions – Reporters Shooed Out As Security Blocks Cameras
Jon Ponder | Mar. 11, 2010

After reporters schlepped to the port of Oakland for what was billed as a press event, the campaign informed them it was really just a photo op and Whitman would be taking no questions. After Whitman posed with executives, her people, including a rentacop, shooed reporters out of the room and even put up screens to prevent additional filming. Later, Whitman’s people compounded their problems by making excuses for their snafu that were easily disprovable lies.
