The latest false rumor floated on the right is that, during his interview with Fox News’ right-wing shill Bret Baier this week, Pes. Obama made up an earthquake that hit Hawaii in 2006. The lie appeared on Drudge, Malkin,”Fox and Friends” and all over right-wing blogs. It’s unclear whether these people didn’t bother to check the Google, or whether they did a search and then knowingly lied. A Google search produced Fox News’ own coverage of the quake in about two seconds.

When Rep. David Dreier was chair of the House Rules Committee, he used the “Slaughter Rule” 35 times in just one session. The rule, which has existed since 1933, was used by GOP speakers Gingrich and Hastert 202 times. You won’t learn any of that by reading the interview with Dreier about the rule published by the Christian News Service this week. In fact, CNSNews published Dreier’s disingenuous take on the rule without bothering to fact check or present any sort of perspective from the pro-reform side. That’s not journalism, it’s stenography — and, worse, propaganda.

Proving they are women first and subservient doormats to bishops…not at all, a group representing 59,000 nuns has fired off a letter to Congress in support of health care reform.
Republicans are flailing away about procedural maneuvers involved in passing health care reform because polling on reform goes down when the focus is on process not the benefits reform will provide. The GOP’s current disinformation campaign focuses on the process of “deeming,” which they have labeled the “Slaughter Rule” after House Rules Chair Louise Slaughter. In fact, the GOP used this same procedure 90 times under Speaker Gingrich and 112 times under Speaker Hastert.

During his campaign for attorney general of Virginia, Ken Cuccinelli made his view on gay rights clear: They are “intrinsically wrong,” he said, because “they don’t comport with natural law” and gay sex “is not healthy to an individual and in aggregate is not healthy to society.” As if that weren’t enough, he was recently caught on tape speculating about whether Pres. Obama was born in Kenya, which says, “doesn’t seem beyond the realm of possibility.” Got that? The top law official of the commonwealth of Virginia is a birther.

By comparison, that’s more people than who live in 39 U.S. states and more than the total population of Virginia (7.8 million), Washington state (6.6 million), Arizona (6.5 million) or Massachusetts (6.5 million).

Sarah Palin got better than she gave when she recently attacked U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Orlando). “I look forward to an honest debate with Governor Palin on the issues, in the unlikely event that she ever learns anything about them,” Grayson said. His press release called Palin “the former half-term Governor” and noted she wore clothes at an event she paid for herself. It didn’t stop there.

Beck to Massa: “Do you realize my family is at stake? You’ve got a little scandal with your children in college. I’ve got one for all time now, because I am not going to resign. I’m not going to back down. I have come to a place where I believe at some point the system will destroy me.”

LIMBAUGH: “I don’t know. I’ll just tell you this, if this passes and it’s five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented — I am leaving the country. I’ll go to Costa Rica.” But, Rush, Costa Rica has a nationalized, or as you would describe it, a “socialist” health-care system.
Sen. Roy Ashburn, the GOP California state senator who was arrested for driving under the influence after leaving a gay club in Sacramento, came out today on a local right-wing radio show in his district. In the interview, Ashburn said his objective in always voting against gay interests was simply to reflect the will of “the vast majority” of his constituents. Audio and transcript here.
