Reid Says House Has Done Nothing

House Republicans are failing even by their own metric. They’ve replaced virtually nothing. So by the speaker’s own admission, they’re not getting anything passed and by his own analysis, they’re getting nothing repealed. So they’re doing nothing.

— Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), responding to Speaker John Boehner’s weekend comment that the GOP-dominated House of Representatives should not be judged on how many laws it passes but on how many laws they repeal, Politico reports.

House Republicans Have Spent 15 Percent of Their Days Since 2011 Trying to Repeal Obamacare

43

Number of days since Republicans took over the House that they have devoted time to voting on repeal of President Obama’s signature health care overhaul. Thursday’s 37th vote to repeal means they have held votes on only 281 days since taking power in January 2011, and Republicans have spent no less than 15 percent of their time on the House floor on repeal in some way.

Boehner Wept – Again

New York Times:

“He wasn’t sobbing, but he definitely teared up.”
– Speaker Boehner’s spokesman

At a meeting of the House Republican freshmen and their leaders on Wednesday, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room — including the speaker’s.

Representative Martha Roby of Alabama had just finished reading an e-mail of support from a one-time Tea Party opponent, recognizing the tough choices that the new Republicans faced in the vote to raise the debt ceiling.

Mr. Boehner, who has become well known for his occasional displays of emotion, joined others in the room by crying a bit during the closed-door session.

Fox News: GOP in Congress Has Lowest Approval of D.C. Politicians – Even Among Republicans

I missed this Fox News poll from last month:

Democrats in Congress continue to garner better ratings than Republicans. Some 37 percent of voters approve of the job Democrats in Congress are doing, little changed from 36 percent about six months ago. For Congressional Republicans, 31 percent approve, up slightly from 29 percent.

Fully 70 percent of Democrats approve of the job their representatives are doing on Capitol Hill, compared to 52 percent of Republicans who approve of theirs. About twice as many Republicans (40 percent) disapprove of the job their party is doing in Congress as Democrats disapprove of their party (19 percent).

A majority of independents disapproves of Democrats (60 percent) and Republicans in Congress (66 percent).

The same poll found that Pres. Obama has a 53 percent favorable rating overall, including a 91 percent favorability among Democrats.
