Only One-Third of Americans Support Trumpcare


A new HuffPost/YouGov survey finds that 31% of Americans favor the American Health Care Act, which narrowly passed the Republican-controlled House last week, while 44% oppose the bill and 25% are unsure. Interestingly, Trump voters have now coalesced around the bill in a way they failed to do earlier this spring with 75% now supportive of the proposed legislation.

As early as today, the House Republican leadership will force its members to vote on an updated version of Trumpcare. In an usual move, leadership has deliberately scheduled the vote before the Congressional Budget Office has completed scoring the new bill.

Most Don’t Like Pre-Existing Opt-Out Option


A new Politico/Morning Consult poll finds 52% of Americans — and 48% of Republicans — oppose weakening federal protections for those with pre-existing medical conditions. “Only 38% of voters surveyed support allowing states to opt-out of these protections — a figure that underscores the struggle House Republicans and President Trump are having in corralling votes from GOP members who represent districts that lean toward Democrats or are evenly divided.”

Holdouts Hold Up Healthcare


The Hill now counts 22 House Republicans who are opposed to the GOP health care bill. “No Democrats are expected to vote for the measure, meaning Republicans can only afford 22 defections.”
